School Nurse

Hello! My name is Lisa Buckland and I am the new School Nurse here at Wedderburn College!
Often people hear the word nurse and think of band-aids and ice packs, however my role is quite different and involves working as part of the school wellbeing team.
My role includes assisting with health education, school wide health promotion initiatives and events, and health consultations with individual students or small groups. Health education and support can help students develop knowledge and skills to make healthier choices both during adolescence and in the future.
My focus is on current health issues that affect young people. I can provide information and support about a range of issues such as:
- Sleep
- Healthy screen use
- Smoking, vaping, alcohol and other drugs
- Body image
- Healthy eating
- Sexual health
- Friendships and relationships
- Puberty and hygiene
- Managing stress and anxiety
I will also provide regular updates and reminders in the newsletter regarding health-related opportunities at school such as the dental van, immunisations, and the ‘Glasses for Kids’ program.
Please feel free to contact me to access support or health information. I will be at school on Mondays and Tuesdays. I can be contacted also via email at lisa.buckland2@education.vic.gov.au or on 0477 569 144.
Students are welcome to drop in and see me. The service is free, friendly, and confidential.
Kind regards,
Lisa
