Werte,
It’s cricket season and we are loving it. Congratulations to our staff and students who participated in the NT Cricket Schools Gala Day held this week to coincide with the Imparja Cup. A grand time was had by all. I especially loved seeing the joy on our girl's faces at their girls only cricket event held at school as part of the Imparja event.
Did you know all of the students in the Reef participate in weekly inter-school sport. The children are split into 2 teams, one who hosts a local school on site and one who goes to a local school. The children enjoy the chance to show off their skills but also enjoy the collegiality of playing their friends from other schools. One of the bonuses from our sports program, including our term-by-term sport coaching from NT Sporting Association coaches, has been the uptake of weekend and after school sports by our students. As a board member of NT School Sport this makes my heart happy as active participation is the aim of the game and physical activity has so many documented positive benefits, especially to mental health.
In case you have been wondering why it wasn’t on the calendar, because of the hot weather we have decided to push our Term 1 Cross Country event into early Term 2. We will send letters home soon asking for some volunteers to assist with the event.
Thanks to POTS for organising the photo fundraiser this week, we appreciate your ongoing support. Jane L and her team do a great job.
Our Value focus for the next few weeks is being Relational. When we talk about our students, we talk about them being Free to Flourish, we talk about “who we are” – our norms and protocols, and “who we are becoming” – our ways of learning and growing.
Relational Living Waters students do this -We show respect and kindness. Some ways they show respect and kindness is: Do the High 5, Be an up-stander, for planet and resources, agree upon and play by the rules, active listening and participation, and engaging with experts to help us grow. We know how Relational Learners at Living Waters learn: We show up on purpose. We focus on building a strong sense of self and understanding the impact we have on others. We develop a skill set to manage our relationships and well-being so that these parts of our lives are healthy and strong. We belong and then we become. Our learners develop a strong sense of belonging to God and to their local and global communities. In belonging we feel connected and confident to become the best version of ourselves.
You will have already heard your children using some of this language as lots has been core to our school wide positive behaviour approach for a number of years. We now have an updated draft document that aligns with Lutheran Education Australia’s Free to Flourish document. We have lots of opportunity to consult on this draft in the second half of this term.
Blessings for a restful family weekend.
Lisa
‘Love your enemies’
This week a group of our senior students attended the Imparja Cup cricket carnival at Ross Park. It was a great day of fun, skill-development and healthy competition. I enjoyed seeing our Living Waters students compete well, while also showing respect to staff, volunteers and opposing teams.
We want our students to learn about healthy competition, perseverance, trying their best and what it takes to succeed. We also want them to learn about respect, managing disappointment and how to be ‘good sports,’ win, lose or draw. These are, of course, important life lessons.
Jesus had some challenging words to say about how we see opposing teams, people or even those who act like ‘enemies.’ He said, ‘Love your enemies, and be good to everyone who hates you. Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you’ (Luke 6:27-29).
Do you have any enemies? What about that parent, child, boss, colleague or family member that makes your life hard? What about that other person, team, school, business or family down the road, that seems to ‘have it in’ for you?
Jesus challenges us to make a special effort to show love and kindness to these people, and even pray for them. According to the Bible, this is how God treats us, not as we deserve, but better, according to his grace and mercy. I pray that our school continues to be a place of love and respect, among ourselves and to those outside our community too.
Pastor Ben
At Living Waters we highlight different families to pray for each week. Praying for people in our community by name shows that we care for them as God does. He knows and loves each of us individually, and when we lift others up in prayer, we recognise their value in His eyes. This strengthens our community by bringing us closer together, reminding us to support and encourage one another.
Week 5

As promised, please see some of our new captains for 2025!
After a little over four years, today we said our farewells to Mr Mike Boland - ICT Officer who has done some amazing work with us across the years. Good luck in the future and make sure to keep in touch. We are sad to see you leave, but life is about taking chances and making our dreams come true. Thank you again for everything you did for our school, it won't be the same without you. We wish you much success in your new job, the future is bright for you!
God bless.

School Start and Finish Times (8.20 am – 2:50 pm)
As has been the case for many years, it is an expectation that children arrive at school by 8.15am at which time teachers collect and take children to class in readiness for roll marking.
It is vitally important that children arrive at school on time, please. Every minute of learning/classroom organisation is important for each learner. Your assistance in helping us by having your child at school by 8.20 am will be most graciously appreciated. To that end, school commences at 8.20 am sharp, each day. Should your child arrive at school late, then they should present for a late pass, at the office.
Uniform Standards
Parents are reminded of the need to ensure that the wearing of uniforms are in line with the school expectations.
Particularly, we would draw your attention to the following areas:
Students' hair is to be kept clean, neat and tidy, off the face; of natural appearance, not dyed, tinted or bleached. Hair below the shoulders needs to be tied up at all times.
Black shoes should be plain, conventional and well-maintained
Students may not wear any makeup at any time
Girls may wear plain gold or silver studs or sleepers only
Our students have a responsibility to uphold the ethos of the school, and to show pride in their school by wearing the uniform correctly – both at the school and when in the community. Your support in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Our Larrikin House Bookfair ‘Adventure Under the Sea’, will be held in Week 7 with students able to view the books and fill in wish lists during Week 6.
Could the parents at your school use an extra $500 for education costs? We know that cost of living pressures are continuing to put extra stress on households, with families in particular feeling the effects.
What is Saver Plus? Eligibility applies
Saver Plus is a program for people on lower incomes. It’s about bolstering their financial skills, so they can develop (and keep) good savings habits.
Since 2003, Saver Plus has supported more than 62,000 people to start saving.
It’s helped overcome the barriers around education expenses. And it’s helped set them up for a brighter future.
What are the eligible savings goals?
Eligible savings goals are education related products or services that:
First Communion classes will run on the Sundays in March after worship services. The sessions will be held in the Old Church (49 Gap Road) at approximately 11:15am for an hour each. They will be aimed at pre-confirmation children aged 8-12 years who have indicated an interest or readiness to start receiving Communion. We will learn about the basics of Holy Communion from the Bible and why it is so important to us as Lutherans. We encourage one parent to attend each session if possible. We will plan to hold a First Communion service around Easter time.
