Music

Gerry Ciavarella

It has been a very productive term in music. Our year 7 instrumental music students are to be commended on their attendance and commitment. They are turning up weekly for lessons with their instrument and music. Instrumental music staff couldn’t be happier with the progress some of our students have made in such short time.

All ensembles are taking shape with students back in the routine of attending rehearsals and learning new repertoire. Students in the junior concert band had their first official rehearsal last week. Although a few students were absent, it was great to see the kids make their first sounds together. Early signs are telling me it’s going to be great year. The intermediate concert band, rock band, string ensemble and vocal group Harmonix are all making good progress. All groups are looking forward to their first concert in term 2.

Intermediate concert band new rehearsal day and time

At the beginning of term 2 intermediate band rehearsals will take place every Tuesday from 3.15-4.30pm. I am hoping all students can make this time. Having rehearsals after school will be much more productive. I am finding many of our students are involved in leadership, sport, drama production and many other activities that occur throughout the week. Having our rehearsal after school on Tuesdays will allow students to attend these extra curricular activities. Please contact me on 0409 142 240 if you have any questions.

Practice

A reminder to music students they must take their instrument home on the day of their lesson to practice before their next lesson. I have noticed a few instruments that seem to be left at school from week to week. With regards to practice time, I suggest 15-20 minutes a day for our juniors and up to 30 minutes a day for intermediate level players. Remember practice makes perfect!

Thank you Carpet World Bairnsdale

On behalf of instrumental music staff and students a BIG thank you to Carpet World Bairnsdale for donating carpet for our new rehearsal room. (See picture) The new carpet has helped with the overall acoustics in the room. It also looks fantastic.

On behalf of instrumental music staff Robyn Keane and Donna Stemberger have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing you all at the beginning of term 2. PS don’t forget to take your instrument home for the holidays.
