Student Leadership Day

On Monday 4th March, we held our annual student leadership day. The purpose of the student leadership day was for the student leaders to get to know each other better, develop their purpose for 2024 and plan some activities and events for 2024 to improve the school experience.

The students worked collaboratively together and had some great discussion about what their 2024 purpose would be, with a common theme being to increase student participation and student voice, have more lunchtime activities and develop a positive culture of respect. With all these ideas collated together, the student leadership team have decided on their 2024 purpose: Increase student involvement in all areas through an enjoyable and inclusive environment.

Harmony Week

This week, the student leadership team have been promoting Harmony Week. They have changed the 5 minute bell music and, instead, we are playing music from a different country each day. There is a daily quiz for students to guess the country origin of the music and to answer some quiz questions to learn about Australia’s diversity. The Diversity Captains have put together a lesson for Thursday’s L2L lesson, which will prompt students to think about what inclusiveness is and to identify ways that they can be inclusive of others. A survey will be held for students to share their ideas and the answers to this survey will be turned into a visual representation for students to see on Friday.

Gratitude posts

The student leadership team have re-launched the Gratitude Posts for 2024:

  • We encourage you to do a Gratitude post for someone you know.
  • Go to the “Gratitude Post” survey in the Compass Newsfeed
  • Answer the question: What has this person said/done recently that you are grateful for?
  • Your gratitude post can be for a student or staff member!
  • The student leaders will deliver the gratitude post to the person anonymously.

Casual Dress Day – Fundraising for Landcare

There will be a casual dress day on Tuesday 26th March to fundraise for the Maffra and Districts Landcare Network.

Students need to bring a gold coin donation if they are wearing casual dress.

Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and green, to support the “environment” theme of this casual dress day. It is, after all, World Ocean Day!

This Casual Dress Day has been organised by the 2023 School for Student Leadership Team of Xander Raine, Will Howell, Hamish Meddings and Jena Hargreaves for the Community Learning Project (CLP).
