OXLEY HIGHWAY - School Holidays Closure and Changed Exemptions
Dear Customers
PLANNED CLOSURE SPRING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AND CHANGED EXEMPTIONS
Transport for NSW is continuing major restoration work on the Oxley Highway at Mount Seaview to return the road to pre-2021 flood condition. Weekly road closures will be in place until 18 December 2025.
Since implementing the weekly planned closures in October 2023, we have been working with Council to identify opportunities to minimise the impact of our work on significant community events. We reached out to freight, rail and public transport stakeholders to ensure that services are maintained every Monday and on weekends, and we ensured that the road is open during NSW school holidays and yearend holiday season, recognising the increased in travel demand during these times.
However, due to the significant impacts of the extreme weather events of March and May 2025 and the ongoing wet weather from June through to August, the expected completion of the works currently under construction has been delayed.
Transport has reviewed the road closure exemptions and associated impacts on work progress. As a result of this review, it was determined that closures will be required during the upcoming NSW spring school holidays. The weekly closure will remain as Tuesdays to Thursdays between 7am and 4:30pm, there will be no closures on Mondays and Fridays during NSW school holidays.
We have also reviewed the special event exemption dates and will be cancelling the exempted dates of Friday 24 October and Tuesday 4 to Friday 7 November. The road will remain closed every Tuesday to Thursday between 7am and 4:30pm, every Friday between 7am and 3pm.
Road closures are necessary due to insufficient room for traffic to pass through when large machinery such as cranes and excavators are operating within the confined road space. The project team requires maximising full access to the road with extended road closures to sufficiently stabilise the affected slip sites before the yearend holiday period, and to minimise the risk of further damage and disruptions through the summer season.
Transport acknowledges the inconvenience during planned closures and thanks the community’s patience and support during this important work.
