Principal Message

Be Kind, Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, Be resilient, Be ready

Dear Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a restful and refreshing break and that our students are feeling ready and excited for the start of Term 2. It is always a joy to begin a new term together, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Our Lady Star of the Sea.

This term promises to be filled with many wonderful opportunities for learning and moments of community celebration. There is a great deal to look forward to, and we are excited to share these experiences with our students and families.

On Friday, our school community will gather at 10:45am at the flagpoles for an Anzac Day ceremony.  Students are invited to bring a flower, or perhaps a sprig of rosemary, to lay at the foot of the flags during the ceremony.

This weekend, we warmly welcome families to join us at the Cowes ANZAC Day Service at 11:00 am. Members of our school community will be laying a wreath as a mark of respect and remembrance. The RSL has kindly reserved a space for our school. If your child attends, we ask that they please wear their school uniform. If you are planning to join us, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out.

We are also looking ahead to some special events this term. Our Mother’s Day Breakfast will be held on Friday, 8th May, a cherished opportunity to gather and celebrate the important women in our lives. Later in May, we will come together to celebrate our school’s Feast Day, a meaningful occasion in the life of our community.

Catholic Education Week also takes place this term. This year’s theme, “Every School a Home of Peace,” has already inspired rich discussion among our staff as we explore how we can continue to nurture a deep sense of peace, belonging, and well-being within our school.

To support our ongoing growth and excellence, staff began the term with two days of professional learning. This included First Aid training, deepening our understanding of Catholic Identity, strengthening our practice in Fluency in English, and engaging with the Berry Street Education Model as a whole-school approach to trauma-informed practice.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming our students back tomorrow. May this term be filled with growth, joy, and connection for all.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Term 2 ahead.

Warm regards,

Pamela McKillop
