Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
2026

As we come to the end of two wonderful terms of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers who make this program possible. Your generosity, enthusiasm and willingness to embrace the excitement and occasional chaos of our two-hour kitchen sessions are greatly appreciated. The support you provide to our students creates valuable learning experiences and lasting memories.
I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful winter holiday. May you have the opportunity to slow down, breathe in the crisp fresh air and spend some special time together with family and friends. Perhaps there will even be some home baking and cooking to share along the way!
Bon Appétit!

Frankie - Today I made the main meal and we made mashed potatoes and a tomato bazil sauce. First we grated potatoes (it was a bit hard). Next, we washed the potatoes and then we cut the potatoes into wedges. Now in a separate bowl, I put six cans of canned tomatoes and four tablespoons of olive oil. Next we added four tablespoons of sugar and lastly we put it all on the stove.
Lucy - In this lesson I was basically doing one thing, but that one thing that I did was so fun. My group was making the bread. Me, Violet and Aria did the kneading and it was so sticky. Me and Violet had experience because we have done this with our grandmas before and we do that a lot.
Aria - Today I made onion, capsicum and cheese scrolls. This is how I made it. Some people like me were kneading flour, milk and yogurt and the other people were cutting vegetables.
Sefam - Today we made salad with lemon, oil, garlic, beetroot, mint, winter peas and peas. Then we chopped the peas. Put them into the compost bin. After we put both of the peas into the salad bowl and then we cut the mint. Then we cut feta cheese and also cut the beetroot. We mixed everything together and packed up.
Azaria - Today I made the salad. It had beetroots, feta cheese, peas, mint, lemon, oil and a lot more. My group is the Zucchini group. My group is Me, Sefam, Lena, Levi, Will and Aarav. My mum helped today with my group.
Aarav - Today we made the salad, first we had to cut the snow peas, beetroot and mint. I used a garlic crusher to crush the garlic and I put it in the dressing bowl. Then, I cut 2 lemons in half and juiced the lemon juice into the dressing bowl. Then I added the honey and added ½ a cup of olive oil. Then we mixed these ingredients together and ate our meal.
Mila B - My group is the carrot. Today we made a mashed potato. The ingredients were potato and a bit of sugar and a lot of butter. It was a bit easy ,but it was hard when we cut the potato and it was very fun.
Lorenzo - Today my group made mashed potatoes and tomato sauce. We used potatoes, tomatoes, sugar, virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. First we peeled the potatoes and then we cut the potatoes. Second we washed the tomatoes and then sliced the tomatoes. Third, we cut the basil.
William - Today we made the salad and it included diced beetroot, mints, snow snap peas, lemon with salsa salt,a type of salad dressing and a type of cheese! I found it amazing and excellent, especially the peas which were so easy to do.
John - Today we did the main meal and it was MASHED POTATOES we used tomato sauce, potatoes, table salt, virgin olive oil, and basel we had to boil the potatoes so they were soft so the helpers could mash them and we got to skin them to only expose the flesh and we had so much fun doing all that stuff with our friends i also cut my self a bit with the peeler when i was being silly peeling the potatoes.
Alexia - Today was week 3 of cooking. I am in the group called eggplant. Today I made bread. We made easy bread scrolls. The dough had flour and water. First we mixed the dough then kneaded the dough and then rolled it out and put the ingredients on. The ingredients were raw onions and red and green capsicum. It gets cooked in the oven.
Charlie - Today was the day I made maybe one of my favorite foods in the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program. We made dough with capsicum onion and rolled it up. I couldn't have liked it more. The amount of effort and teamwork we put in, made this meal easily my favourite. Today was my favorite time learning the SAKG program for the win. That is basically it, otherwise it was the best time of the SAKG program. It really made me happy with our superb meal.
Leo - Today we made mashed potatoes with basil and tomato sauce. First we got the potatoes and peeled and chopped them into a bowl with salt and pepper. Then we got the tomatoes and diced them and picked basil then put them both in a bowl. Then we put the potatoes into the pot and put the tomatoes and basil in a separate pot. It was pretty easy. I think this will be good at home for dinner.
