Principal's Message

At Wembley Primary School, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school sits, the Woi-wurrung and Boonwurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.
We celebrate and respect the oldest continuing culture and recognise the importance of education in truth telling, equity and justice.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, colleagues and community bring into our schools.
Week 9-10 Update
And 'That's a Wrap!' on Term 1!
Somewhat unbelievable, but our first term is done and dusted! It's been a term full of positive growth for our whole school; students, teachers and families alike!
This term we have had an enormous focus on re-defining and reinforcing our whole school procedures and routines, as well as Tier 1 Behaviour Supports - both actions relating to our Key Improvement Strategy of: Build staff capacity to implement Universal (Tier 1) and targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 practices to support Student Learning, Engagement & Wellbeing. Parents will have seen and heard plenty of structures being put in place to support our students to demonstrate expected behaviours:
Next term, we will begin to explore our AIP work in relation to our Key Improvement Strategy: Strengthen partnerships with parents and carers to enhance Student Learning, Engagement & Wellbeing. We will be sending out a survey to all members of the community, aiming to capture feedback and suggestions in relation to promising practises, such as: two way communication, frequent 'light touches' on student progress and general opportunities for community involvement. We encourage as many of you as possible to contribute your voice to this. Behind the scenes with staff, we have also been developing some community 'touch-points' in the form of small scale events and communication pieces, which we will begin to enact. We will be purposefully scheduling a small number of social opportunities for parents and teachers to interact, as well as some opportunities to share and celebrate student learning, outside of our usual student-led conferences and reporting processes.
Further to this, we will share a joint fundraising calendar with you all, which will outline the key dates we will be acknowledging and celebrating as a school. In addition, this calendar will list events that are specifically aimed at fundraising - this is so that families can plan in advance things such as costumes (ie: House Colours Day), or provision of gold coins! This calendar will also link in any Student Leadership Projects that might attract fundraising.
On the student celebrations page we have a number of student achievements to mention, including:
- District Cross Country Team
- Regional Swimming
- Individual Student Sporting Achievements
- Junior School Council Results
- Spanish: Empanada Making!
- Student Learning Achievement Awards
We would also like to acknowledge our Year 6 Leadership Group - our captains this year have commenced their final year of Primary School with a palpable sense of purpose and responsibility. All captains have been working on their Leadership Projects; every Friday this term, captains have been meeting to make a plan for the rest of the year. This plan outlines what they would like to influence or change within the year, along with an associated action plan. This Thursday the captains will present these projects to the remainder of the Year 6 cohort, who will then nominate a captaincy group that they would like to collaborate with and support for the remainder of the year.
Examples include:
House Captains: working on house pride and visibility
PE Captains: want to focus on fundraising to afford 5/6 Sport Jerseys
Sustainability Captains: are aiming to reinvigorate the school's composting system and approach to waste management
School Captains: are aiming to further improve and invigorate assemblies
Over the holidays the VSBA (Victorian School's Building Authority) will have contractors onsite attending to various works, identified as part of the defects management process. The Capital Works Project reached practical completion on March 11th, and we have therefore entered the 12 month defect management component of the project, during which any outstanding works, incomplete works or unsatisfactory works will be attended to by the VSBA. For example, you may have noticed fencing works being undertaken this week.
Additionally, we will have the arborists in, following up from our annual audit. They have already installed additional restraint cabling on some of our larger trees with substantial limbs, but have further identified a couple of trees that need some maintenance. A significant piece of maintenance will be the removal of this tree, near the Prep C classroom entrance which is sadly diseased.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone in our community for your support and encouragement this term. We wish every family a restful holidays and a Happy Easter for those that celebrate.

General Reminders
Term 2: Commences on Tuesday April 22nd - but remember, it's an even shorter week with ANZAC Day (Public Holiday) on Friday 25th.
Lost Property: Pre-loved and lost property cupboards are now fully assembled and situated in the new building - we encouraged these to be accessed by parents and carers, rather than children, so that they are kept in orderly condition. Families are invited to take items that they need from the pre-loved shelves. Thank you to those families who have made donations.
Label clothing: just a reminder that we find it incredibly helpful when clothing is labelled with a student's full name and grade. This helps us return items direct to a classroom, and skip the Lost Property stage!
Student Entry Point: A reminder to all that general student access to the new building should not be through the office entrance. We ask that students enter school grounds via the side and rear door entry points, preserving front access for those that are specifically visiting the office or sick bay
Year 6-7 Transition: Term 2 marks the beginning of the Year 6-7 government secondary transition process. Beginning in Week 1, Year 6 families will receive the parent information pack, including their pre-filled Year 7 application, which all families must complete and return by Friday 9th May.
