NATIONAL RIDE2SCHOOL DAY

On Friday 22 March we celebrated with the rest of Australia, National Ride to School Day. We had 59 students scooter/skating, 92 riding a bike, with another 42 taking the opportunity to walk to school. These numbers were excellent considering the gloomy weather in the morning.  A special thanks to Jill Stephenson who runs our Bike Education Program.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who celebrated their First Reconciliation on the 20th March. Thank you to Mrs. Baldwin and the Year 3 Teachers who prepared the students to receive this Sacrament.

SUMMER SPORTS GALA

Our Year 5 and 6 students travelled to various locations around Wyndham, to compete with students from several other local schools. Congratulations to all the students on the positive way they approached the day and the tremendous sportsmanship they displayed. Well done to the Girls Basketball team who won the girls competition and have progressed through to the division finals later in the year.

CROSS COUNTRY

Yesterday the students in Year 3 - 6 participated in a Cross Country trial.  This event helps Mr Geisler select a team who will represent St John’s at the District Cross Country in Term 2.

JUNIOR RACES

On Monday 31st March we held our Junior Races. The students ran in their house colours and were cheered on by the crowd which included many parents. Congratulations to our Year 6 Leaders on the wonderful job they did organising and running the event. You can see from the pictures below how much fun everyone had.

FINAL WEEK PROJECT COMPASSION

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, this is the final week we will be taking donations.

Spanning across the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for Caritas, our Catholic Aid Agency. These much-needed funds help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.  Each class has their own Project Compassion Box, where students can put their donations.  This is a terrific opportunity for children to use some of their pocket money to give to others in the world who are in need of some support.

CHILD SAFETY - ONLINE SAFETY PARENT HUB

As part of our ongoing commitment to child safety, we have an Online Safety Parent Hub. The Parent Hub provides a wealth of online safety resources such as; digital parenting guides, app reviews and articles.  These are developed by a team of leading digital safety and wellbeing experts. Plus, families have access to free parental control tools to help keep children safe while using their personal devices.  Content on the hub is constantly updated and added to, so parents should try to get into the habit of visiting this regularly especially as new online social media platforms and games are released.

BIKE SAFETY OVER THE HOLIDAY

As we approach the school holidays below is a reminder of some rules when riding a bike in Victoria.

It is compulsory to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle in Victoria on any road or road-related area like a bike path, bike lane, shared footpath or separated footpath. Your child's helmet should be:

  • the right size and correctly fitted – the helmet should be comfortable and not too tight or loose. Caps should not be worn under helmets as they ruin the fit – your child can wear a visor over the helmet to protect them from the sun. Choose a helmet that is not too heavy and provides good ventilation.
  • positioned properly – the helmet should sit level on the rider's head, covering the forehead with the rim just above the eyebrows. The straps should be correctly adjusted and the buckle securely fastened. The straps should form a 'V' shape with the plastic strap guide sitting just under the earlobe. Make sure straps are not twisted. The buckle should be close up under your child's chin.

    ASSEMBLY LIVE STREAM

Each Friday the students gather for a whole school assembly in the Hall.  This event is usually streamed to our Vimeo channel.  Families can view the assembly by clicking on the link which is emailed via email using your Operoo profile. The email only goes to those parents who have “receive correspondence” checked in their settings.
