Mazenod Cricketer Selected by Cricket Victoria
Sanithu (Year 10) has been selected in Cricket Victoria’s Metro U17 Male Emerging Players squad for the 2026-27 season.
The program includes pre-season sessions leading into a camp at the Mildura Sporting Precinct, where squads will play T20 and 50-over matches under lights.
Working with Cricket Victoria High-Performance staff and experienced Premier Cricket coaches, players will be introduced to the standards, habits and preparation required at an elite level.
Sanithu is a valued member of Mazenod’s Year 10 ACC Cricket team, plays community cricket with Bayside Cricket Club, and represents Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club in the Dowling Shield tournament.
Well done, Sanithu. An outstanding achievement.
Leading Through Faith
For our Year 11 and 12 VCE VET Christian Ministry and Theology students, faith formation recently became something they had to design, lead and share.
As part of their Units 3&4 course, students were challenged to create a retreat experience for a Year 7 Religious Education class, centred around a biblical theme.
Across several weeks, they planned, rehearsed and developed resources to create sessions that included prayer, games, team activities and small group Bible work.
The project asked our senior students to think carefully about how biblical stories, characters and messages can be explored in a way that is meaningful for younger students today.
It was a valuable opportunity for our Year 11 and 12 students to lead with confidence, while giving our Year 7 students an engaging experience of faith led by older members of the College community.
Building Confidence Through Adventure
Year 8 Outdoor Education students have begun their visits to The Ranch Adventure Park on the Mornington Peninsula.
Across Term 3 and Term 4, students will attend in groups to take part in a range of outdoor activities, including horse riding, archery and mountainboarding.
The first group attended yesterday, stepping into new experiences that encourage confidence, resilience and teamwork beyond the classroom.
Welcome to Our Friends from Japan
A warm welcome to our friends from Daisho Gakuen High School in Osaka, Japan, who arrived on Monday for their visit to Mazenod.
This year marks 25 years of partnership between Mazenod and Daisho Gakuen, a friendship built through language, culture, hospitality and shared experiences.
From 20 July to 1 August, we are delighted to host sixteen students, two teachers and Principal Mr Hiroichi Yamagami, welcoming them into our homes and College community as we continue this valued partnership.
We also extend our sincere thanks to our languages staff for their generous support of our international exchange programs, as well as to the 27 Mazenod host families who have welcomed students from Italy and Japan this year.
These exchanges leave a lasting impact on students, families and our College community, with many of the friendships formed continuing through Mazenod Study Tours in 2026 and 2027.
Junior School Semester 1 Awards
Students in Years 7-9 were recognised for their outstanding efforts and contributions within their Pastoral Groups at our Semester 1 Awards Assembly. Awards were presented for Christian Leadership, Academic Excellence and Commitment and Perseverance, celebrating the diverse ways students demonstrate excellence and positively contribute to our community. These awards reflect the College's vision of educating the whole person in the pursuit of personal excellence to make a better world for all.
Students were also reminded that not receiving an award does not diminish the effort, commitment, or growth they have demonstrated throughout the semester. Every student's journey is unique, and success can be measured in many different ways. We encourage all students to reflect on their personal journey, celebrate how far they have come, acknowledge the progress they have made and continue striving to become the best version of themselves.
Mazenod Machinists Compete with Distinction
The Mazenod Machinists represented the College with distinction at the Melbourne Robotics Tournament, held on Friday and Saturday at Blackburn High School.
Competing as Team 10552, our Robotics team finished in 5th position out of 25 teams in a strong field.
Across the tournament, the team competed with focus, resilience and impressive defensive play, holding their own against highly resourced teams with larger robots.
Congratulations to all students involved on a strong performance and another important step forward for the Mazenod Robotics program.
Celebrating Fr Harry's Ordination
Join us in congratulating our College Rector, Fr Harry Dyer OMI, on the 36th anniversary of his Ordination to the priesthood.
Ordained on this day in 1990, Fr Harry has given many years of faithful service as an Oblate priest, including his ongoing presence and leadership within the Mazenod College community.
We give thanks for his vocation, ministry, and continued commitment to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Congratulations, Fr Harry.
Mazenod Open Chess
At the end of Term 2, Mazenod students competed in the Mazenod Open Chess Tournament, a major event on the College’s chess calendar.
The tournament brought together players from across year levels and gave students the opportunity to test their focus, patience and decision-making in a competitive setting.
Congratulations to Dinh (Year 12), who was named overall winner, along with Flynn
(Year 9), who won the Intermediate division, and Dylan (Year 8), who won the Junior division.
Well done to all students who competed and continue to contribute to the growth of the Chess program at Mazenod.
Super Speak Achievement Award
Congratulations to Dehan (Year 7) on receiving a Super Speak Achievement Award. Super Speak is a Public Speaking and Drama program for children, supporting students to build confidence, communication skills and presentation skills.
This award recognises students who have completed 2.5 years of Public Speaking and Communication Skills training, equivalent to 100 hours, and presented 15 formal solo speeches. It is a wonderful achievement and a strong reflection of Dehan’s commitment, confidence and growth as a speaker.
2026 Plain English Speaking Awards
Congratulations to Ryan (Year 12), who has won the semi-final of the Plain English Speaking Awards, run by the VCAA.
After finishing runner-up last year, Ryan returned to the competition and delivered an outstanding performance, finishing ahead of eight other speakers.
He will now progress to the State Final on Friday 31 July.
Well done, Ryan. We wish you all the best for the next stage.
ACC Strings and Symphony Orchestra Workshop
Mazenod was pleased to host the ACC Strings and Symphony Orchestra Workshop on Friday 19 June, welcoming students from Catholic colleges across the association. Held across the Founders’ Complex and Provence Centre, the workshop brought young musicians together for a day of rehearsal, learning, and ensemble development. Thank you to guest clinicians Lisa Grosman and Stephen Hardie for sharing their expertise with students and supporting a valuable day of music-making.
Year 10 Vocational Preparation Work Experience
During the final week of Term 2, students in the Year 10 Vocational Preparation program participated in work experience, allowing them to gain real-life insight into careers they are exploring. For many of these young men, the Vocational Preparation program serves as a pathway to the Vocational Major stream in VCE.
Edison Tran spent the week with Sean Golonka, owner of Sean Golonka Electrical Pty Ltd. Sean, a master electrician, provided Edison with valuable insight into the responsibilities a qualified tradesperson must manage on site. Throughout the week, Edison developed skills in running cables, stripping insulation from wires, and understanding the expectations placed on a first-year apprentice.
Important life skills such as punctuality, courtesy, maintaining a clean and tidy workspace, and limiting phone use were reinforced, essential qualities for any young person seeking success in the workforce.
Mazenod College is deeply grateful for the opportunities provided by Sean and all those on site during this work experience period. The care and support shown to Edison were greatly appreciated.
