Pharmacy News
Any place there are medicines, there are pharmacists. This means that the pool of opportunities for pharmacy graduates is large and diverse. Monash University has published a very useful booklet outlining twenty-two pharmacy careers.

Important update: The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) / Master of Pharmacy will be restructured to a Doctor of Pharmacy program. This is to bring Monash into line with the entry/practice standards of the Pharmacy Board and global standards. It will remain a 5-year program, with a heavier workload in the final year. Details will be published in the coming weeks.
Studying a Common First Year in Engineering
A number of Victorian universities offer a common first year in their Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree. The advantage of a common first year is that students get to explore various specialisations in their first year, preparing them to choose an engineering field in their second year. Students get a taste of the various engineering specialisations on offer before deciding which to pursue from the second year.
Deakin University - Engineering offers five engineering specialisations as part of their Bachelor of Engineering degrees, all of which participate in the common first year. The Bachelor of Software Engineering is a separate degree and does not have a common first year with the main Engineering degrees.
Monash University - Engineering offers ten engineering specialisations and, all but the Biomedical Engineering specialisation, participate in the common first year.
RMIT University - Engineering offers ten specialisations, all of which are accessible after the common first year.
Swinburne University - Engineering offers eight engineering majors, and in the common first year, students complete a number of core units that assist them in choosing their major.
Internet of Things IoT Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)
Throughout this specialised four-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) course, students will develop the knowledge and practical skills required to design and develop innovative software solutions to address multifaceted information and technology challenges. They will have access to specialised facilities, including dedicated robotics, cyber security and augmented and virtual reality laboratories, all supported by experienced, industry-connected staff.

Importantly, students will have the opportunity to undertake a professional placement as part of their studies, or work in teams with an industry partner to tackle authentic business challenges as part of a capstone project.
Internet of Things IoT Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)
Similarly to Deakin University, Swinburne University also offers Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) with a major in the Internet of Things. With a focus on software development, this course is taught by some of the best computer minds in the business. Students learn in industry standard labs and choose to specialise with a major in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber security, Data Science, Games Development, Software Development or Internet of Things.
The Internet of Things major gives students the core skills needed to program a host of devices and develop software solutions. They learn to problem-solve through analysing data from internet-connected devices.Worth noting, this course includes a guaranteed Work Integrated Learning opportunity, which could be a placement, internship or industry-linked project.
Swinburne Early Entry Program 2026
Applications are open, and close 27 November 2026.
Open to domestic and onshore international students. Requirements: Year 12 pass, meet VCE prerequisite study scores, no ATAR required. Students must also make a VTAC application. We know your ATAR doesn't tell the full story of what you’re capable of as a Uni student. This is a different way to enter university that will not depend on your ATAR.
The Early Entry Program at Swinburne is a unique opportunity for current Year 12 students to receive a conditional offer based on a recommendation by the school and not based on an ATAR. The program includes options for VCE VM and unscored VCE students, and these students can now receive an early offer from Swinburne for twelve different diploma/degree packaged pathways.
Details of the application process, as well as participating courses can be found below.
1. Application process - Students must organise a recommendation from a school representative – the school’s principal, the year level coordinator, a teacher, or the Career Practitioner, in order to proceed with an application.
2. Eligible courses - Courses that will be offered through this program can be found at Early Entry Program Eligible Courses, and students can only apply for one course.3. Recommendation form - Once an application is submitted, students will receive a confirmation email which will include the form they need to forward to their chosen school representative who will complete the form and return it to Swinburne, who will match the student’s application.
Applications are open, and close 27 November 2026. Early Entry Program application outcomes will start being issued from 1 September 2026, and the offer will become unconditional once students successfully complete Year 12 and meet the course prerequisites – for example, a course may require an English study score of 25 or an EAL study score of 30.
VU Early Entry Program

Tackle VCE with confidence, knowing you have a head start on your future with an early entry program unique to you! Year 11 or 12 students studying VCE, VCE Vocational Major, Unscored VCE or an International Baccalaureate in Victoria, are eligible for VU Early Entry.
Applications open on 21 April 2026 at Victoria University’s Early Entry Program and will close 15 October 2026.
Aspire Program for 2027 Entry
Closes Friday 4 September
Aspire Community Impact Program -Open to domestic and permanent resident students only. The Aspire Community Impact rewards Year 12 students for their volunteering or community contribution experience with an early conditional offer for most undergraduate courses at La Trobe.
A number of Aspire Scholarships, worth $5,000 per year for up to four years, will be awarded to leading eligible Aspire students. When applying, applicants are required to provide information about the length and frequency of their community service and/or volunteering experience.
Aspire Academic Impact Program, is open to domestic and permanent resident students only. Applications open Wednesday 1 April 2026 and close on Friday 4 September 2026. Students can nominate up to three courses and should do their research as they cannot edit these once their application is submitted.
Deakin Guaranteed ATAR
Guaranteed ATARs for 2027 Entry The Deakin Guaranteed ATAR provides access for more students, so you can secure a place in the course you want.
Deakin is providing lower upfront guaranteed ATARs for eligible students from under-represented cohorts at Deakin.
This may mean students who:
- attend an under-represented school – see list here OR
- live or study in a regional or remote home or school location OR
- are of Indigenous Australian descent
This provides students with more certainty, reduces stress and gives them the best chance to get into the course they really want. Applications will be made through VTAC later in the year. Find out more at Deakin Guaranteed ATAR.
Key Medicine Dates for 2027 Entry
Year 12 students are reminded that the selection process for direct entry into medicine at Clayton consists of three equally weighted components:
- ATAR, including adjustment factors, e.g. Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS);
- UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand) total score; and,
- Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) performance.
On Friday, 2 October 2026 all VTAC applicants will receive an email from the Faculty outlining the application process and instructions to apply for the Dean’s Rural List (DRL).
This will be sent to the email used in the VTAC application. Should students not have received an email by 5pm, they are advised to check their spam/junk folder before contacting Monash. Applications for the DRL will close at 12pm (midday) Friday, 9 October 2026 (Melbourne local time).

Associate Degree in Information Technology
RMITs 2-year Associate Degree in Information Technology focuses on real-world problems, is project-based, has an active learning approach, and is linked to the current requirements of industry. Students build foundational knowledge in cyber security, artificial intelligence, programming and data handling, gaining in-demand tech skills, problem-solving abilities, and career flexibility.
This associate degree allows students to enter the workforce with relevant skills for today's IT industry, opening doors to roles in government, education, health, tourism, and retail, among other industries and sectors. Alternatively, students could choose to continue on to further study in one of the following degrees. Credit may apply which will reduce the total duration of the chosen destination course.
