Year 10 Students Get Hands-On with Gyoza

Our Year 10 Food and Nutrition students put their culinary skills into practice yesterday, making Japanese gyoza during Period 2.

The lesson gave students the opportunity to develop their skills in designing and preparing protein-based mince fillings, bringing their classroom learning to life through a delicious practical activity.

This week, Balmoral State High School’s Head of Department – Middle School Engagement, Trevor Buckingham, presented at the 2026 Trauma-Aware Education Conference at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Now in its fifth biennial conference, the event brings together educators, researchers and practitioners to share current research and practical approaches to trauma-aware education.Trevor presented From Behaviour to Engagement: A Trauma-Aware Framework for Secondary Schools, sharing work being introduced and developed at Balmoral to support staff in translating trauma-aware learning into practical, everyday approaches to learner engagement.

The framework focuses on moving beyond one-off professional learning by building staff understanding over time through practical strategies, reflection, staff voice and relational practice. It was also a valuable opportunity to learn from educators and researchers working in this space and to bring new ideas and thinking back to our Balmoral community.#BalmoralStateHighSchool
