Student free day this Monday 2nd November

A reminder that this Monday 2nd November is a Student Free Day at the school.   This day is Melbourne Cup Eve, the day before the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday and teachers will be using this day to complete end of year assessments and write reports.

If you require supervision for your child, please sign them up at Team Kids for the day.

Halloween - a request

As you would know, SKiPPS does not have a school uniform and we really value the way that this approach allows students to demonstrate their individuality and identity whilst at school.

With Halloween taking place this weekend, we know that some students will want to celebrate by wearing some spooky items to school.

Whilst we are ok with this to an extent, in previous years we have seen some students bringing items such as hockey & 'Scream' masks, fake blood and imitation weapons to school.

This took things too far and meant that younger students were scared by the appearance of other students.

We ask families to ensure that any clothing or items brought to school around halloween are school-appropriate to avoid us having to confiscate unsuitable items and comfort scared students.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

You Can Help: Sign Our Petition!

Last week our School Council provided an update on their tireless work to campaign and advocate for much-needed facilities upgrades at our school.

One of the most powerful ways our school community can support this work is by adding your voice to our petition calling for investment in SKiPPS facilities.

If you haven't already signed, please take a moment to do so. Every signature helps demonstrate the strength of community support behind this campaign and reinforces the message we are taking to government.

Sign the petition here:

Thank you to everyone who has supported our advocacy so far. We are beginning to see real progress, and with the continued support of our wonderful school community, we are determined to keep this momentum going.

Let’s talk transport

Port Phillip is home to more than 112,000 people and is expected to grow to almost 150,000 people over the next 10 years.

As our community grows, the demand on our transport network will too. That’s why City of Port Phillip are developing an Integrated Transport Strategy to guide how we invest in safer, better connected and more reliable travel options over the next decade.

We’ll be visiting St Kilda Park Primary on Wednesday 25th of November from 3-4pm to hear from parents and students about the different ways you travel around Port Phillip and your views on the transport priorities that matter most to you.

You can also have your say online and express an interest to participate in our community working group by 11.59 pm Sunday 6 December: haveyoursay.portphillip.vic.gov.au/journey

Thank You to Super Cheap Fabrics!

A big thank you to Super Cheap Fabrics in Collingwood for their incredibly generous support of this year's Celebration of the Arts!

Gallery Image

Their donation of fabric helped us transform our stage into a spectacular setting for Thursday night's performances, adding colour and atmosphere to an already wonderful evening. They also generously provided additional fabric for use in our Visual Arts program, which will benefit our students well beyond the event itself.

We are extremely grateful to Myer and the team at Super Cheap Fabrics for their generosity and willingness to support our school and its arts programs.

If you're looking for fabric for your next creative project, we encourage you to support this wonderful local business!

Planning for 2027

We are well into the process of planning for next year, creating classes, employing staff and setting budgets for a successful 2027.

Gallery Image

As our budget is determined by enrolment numbers, it is vital that we get an accurate picture of how many students we will have at SKiPPS at the start of next year.

If your Foundation - Year 5 child is going to be elsewhere next year, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible.

 Help needed with the chickens

Our five beautiful chickens who live a life of luxury in our amazing chook house (located in the quiet area behind the Kitchen Dining Room) require care throughout term 4. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help spread the workload of looking after them each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Gallery Image

You will be required to check in on the chickens, collect the eggs, top up food and water, remove manure and replace hay. This should take 15 minutes maximum. However, you are welcome to hang out and relax with the chickens if you would like. They do enjoy spending time out of the coop so if you feel comfortable, let them them roam and lock them back up before you leave.

If you think you can help out, please select the available slots and click on the button to sign up for one or more days during term 4. You will be required to sign in at the office and show your working with childrens check if you sign up for Tuesdays and Thursdays and visit during school hours, otherwise you can complete the tasks straight after school.
