Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
We are excited to celebrate Children’s Book Week with a whole school HPS parade on Monday morning beginning at 9.10am! We welcome family and friends to attend and join in the fun.
As outlined in our Photographing, Filming and Recording policy;
Heidelberg Primary School requests that parents/carers, students and invited guests who photograph, film or record school activities only do so for their own personal use and do not publish the images in any form, including on social media, without the prior consent of persons whose children also appear in the images.
Thank you to our library teachers, Denise Pilinis and Jane Plunkett for their coordination of the event and to Stef Galvin and Carla Daniele for leading our staff through some fabulous art activities related to short listed books, for our students to engage in and enjoy as part of their classroom learning program.
We are looking forward to seeing all the wonderfully creative costumes on Monday!
Naming of the new gymnasium
After consultation with local elders at a cultural engagement meeting, a naming request for Woi-Wurrung language with cultural significance of the area has provided a few options for our consideration.
Have your say in the naming of our new gym:
- yumagu (YOO-mah - goo) - means 'everyone'
- wimbi-murrup (wim-bee mur-up) - means 'Wallaby Spirit'
Reflects the theme of Wallabies and native wildlife. Symbolises agility, movement, balance and strength., it evokes both physical qualities of the Wallaby and the enduring spirit of Country and community
- barrawarn yilam (bar-ra warn yee-lam) - means 'Magpie's Place/Home'
barrawarn is the strongest birdlife based name because the project
consultation identified local bird populations as a key characteristic of the area
Please cast your family vote for the preferred name of our new gymnasium building.
Voting will close Thursday 27th August at 4pm.

Year 4 Camp
Our Year 4 students have returned from their exciting adventure at Lady Northcote Adventure Camp, with everyone reporting a wonderful time! Students enthusiastically took part in a range of activities, challenged themselves, stepped outside their comfort zones and strengthened connections with their peers through a variety of team-building and age appropriare risk taking tasks and activivities.
Camps provide a valuable opportunity for students to build independence, resilience and friendships, and it was wonderful to see our Year 4 students embrace every opportunity.
A huge thank you to the staff and parent volunteers who attended camp. Your time, energy and support make these experiences possible, and we are incredibly grateful for all you do to support our students.
2027 Foundation Students
This year, we are excited to introduce a new initiative designed to support our future students and their families as they begin their journey with Heidelberg Primary School.
Prior to the commencement of our formal Transition Program in Term 4, we are inviting children enrolled to begin Foundation in 2027, along with a parent or carer, to join us for a relaxed Story Time session in our school library.
These optional, low-pressure opportunities are designed to help children become familiar with our school environment, begin building connections with staff and other future students, and feel a sense of belonging within our school community.
We understand that starting school can be both an exciting and unfamiliar experience. Through these informal sessions, we hope to provide an additional opportunity for children and families to connect with Heidelberg Primary School and help make the transition to school feel a little more familiar and welcoming.
