Library

Hello everyone,
Just a few updates from the library as we race through the term.
Scholastic Book Club Issue #6 is closing this Friday!
To order from Book Club, you can either lodge the order online via LOOP (instructions are on the back of the catalogue) or you can hand your filled out form and pay for it at the front office.
I only have a certain number of times that I can get deliveries with free shipping, so at the very latest your child’s order should arrive 2 weeks after the closing date.
If you need a spare, you can ask for one at the front office but please be aware that there is a limited supply of them.
Children’s Book Week!
Remember that our very special Melton West P.S. Book Week is next week with our parade on Friday the 4th of September! I cannot wait to see everyone’s wonderful costumes.
You’ve most likely seen the CBCA shortlisted books of the year as they’ve been coming home or only via Class Dojo. As they are all pretty popular, you can always check with our local public library for copies to borrow. You can search their library catalogue via this link (https://mlis.libsvic.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/mlis/search/results?te=#homerivers) and it will tell you where the copies are located or when they’ll be due back.
Melton Library and Learning Hub news:
There will be a sensory-friendly craft program running during the next lot of school holidays where children and parents are encouraged to go and play with kinetic sand and practice mindfulness with sensory tools available. It will be held at the Melton Library and Learning Hub on McKenzie Street on Tuesday the 29th of September (Week 2 of the holidays) between 10 and 11am. This event is completely free but there are limited places available so you can book your spot via the QR code on the flyer or via this link (https://libraryevents.melton.vic.gov.au/event?id=246578). You are also welcome to bring additional sensory equipment to further support your children in the session.
Dymocks Children’s Charities (DCC) news:
I and the leading teachers have selected just over 500 new books for the library and classroom libraries. 93 of them have arrived so far and the rest will be coming over the next few weeks.
As well as this, our school was randomly selected as the school entry winner for the DCC Poster Design competition and has been awarded a further $500 to go towards new books! Thank you to everyone who submitted their children’s designs to the competition as every entry gave our school a greater chance of being selected and made a difference.
The in-school version of the competition has closed and judging will be done this week with hopes of presenting the artworks at a future assembly.
Book Returns:
Just a friendly reminder that books should be coming back to school every 1-2 weeks. A school library book will always have a barcode on the back cover with our school name and a label on its spine or back cover with a single letter, 3 letters or a number. It might also have a school stamp on the inside cover and be covered in plastic contact wrap. Please make sure your notifications for Class Dojo are on so that you get the “Library Day” notifications specifically for your child’s class so we can all make sure books are coming back on library days.
Happy reading everyone!
- Miss Tye
