Science and STEM

National Science Week

What a fantastic Science Week we're having at OHR!

Our lunchtime activities have been absolutely packed, with loads of students coming along to get involved. On Tuesday we had a special STEM Lego Lab, where students took on the challenge of building a vehicle that could carry one minifig and travel as slowlyas possible down a ramp which is much trickier than it sounds. There was some brilliant thinking that went into the designs. On Wednesday we got our hands dirty making cress heads with P-2 students, and on Thursday we'll be finishing the week off by making seed paper with students from Years 3-6.

In class, students have been investigating the science behind bubbles, and our Year 3-6 students explored aerodynamics by building their own boomerang paper planes.

A special shout-out to the following Year 5/6 students, who volunteered to help me run lunchtime activities for the younger students. They showed fantastic leadership and were brilliant role models. I am extremely grateful for their help and for their enthusiasm.

STEM SUPPLIES

Thank you to the families who have sent in supplies for STEM. Your support is greatly appreciated!

We have been fortunate to receive lots of bottle tops, which is fantastic. However, we are still in need of shoe box lids or shoe boxes for some STEM projects. If you have any to spare, we would love to put them to good use!
