School Libraries Are

Safe Spaces

Creating a space of positive community interaction leads to a safe space for all.

The library at Sandringham College is more than just a place to check out books.  It is a safe and inclusive space for students to feel supported and welcome.  Whether Sandringham students come here to study, read or just take a break library staff ensure they feel comfortable and secure.  We encourage students to participate in competitions, clubs and activities that cross a range of year levels.  Both libraries offer a makerspace area where students can come together, interact with one another, and form new friendships.  Our extensive range of diverse books ensures that all students can see themselves in the literature they read, helping create an environment that values diversity and inclusivity.  The quiet reading area is just that, a quiet, no talking reading area (it is non-negotiable).  This space provides crucial respite for students who need a safe space to be alone.  Library staff on both campuses are dedicated to providing a nurturing space where students can feel safe, explore their interests, and expand their knowledge.

What's happening in the Library...

This term Bluff Road library hosted a UNO competition, lots of strategic moves and fun, with Will Taylor proving to be too good for his opponents.

Bracelet making was a popular makerspace activity this term.

The reading challenges for Year 7 (Game of Words) and Year 8 (Book Genre Bingo) are entering their final weeks.   Information on the reading challenges can be found on the Sandringham College Library Website.

7A are in the lead for the Year 7 reading challenge to win a whole class lunch.

Oliver Brown (Year 8)

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

It was intense, action packed and entertaining. My favourite manga series so far.

Lene Brand (Year 7)

Nevermore by Jessica Townsend

It had a very interesting dystopian perspective, with action, mystery and fantasy themes. I love the character development, and seeing the characters grow and change as the books (3 books in the series) go on and how they're shaped by tragedy and the horrors they have to face.

Kyan Wilson (Year 8)

Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate

Intense volleyball battles, inspired me to play volleyball.

Sienna Maguire (Year 8)

The hunger games by Suzanne Collins

It had a super interesting premise, with some great writing.  I felt so invested and I could barely put it down!

Iga Potulna (Year 7)

One of us is lying by Karen McManus

I enjoyed this book because of the suspense and mystery.  I loved how the author kept the reader second-guessing themselves all throughout the book.  It was a book I was invested in and couldn't stop reading.
