Learning to fly

As I sit here and put down my thoughts for this edition of the newsletter, I can't help but focus on the school production: We Will Rock You! The amount of effort from staff, students, volunteers, alumni and families is just so epic that it simply demands attention. I want to commend and congratulate all of the students involved in the show. I do it now - before I have seen it - because the work involved is the point.
'Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
It's the climb'
Mylie Cyrus
Everyone involved in any production wants to see it succeed. That success hinges on the hard work and commitment of those involved.
The VCE is no different.
The VCE / VCAL are mountains to climb. It is difficult to see from where you are now exactly what is waiting on the other side but that is not what it is about. Do what you are doing now to the best of your ability. Give it everything that you have. It doesn't have to be the thing that you end up doing after you reach the summit, it may be something that you have started to dislike - you still need to commit to it. For better (definitely for better) all of our students at Holloway Road are on the mountainside and this time of year is very much the time to climb. If you feel like you've been climbing for a long time, remember that at the summit, that's when you learn to fly.
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I
Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly
