Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,  

As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, it is wonderful to reflect on the many achievements, special events and learning experiences that have brought our school community together. 

Our Junior Production of Play Time was a tremendous success and a joyful celebration of the performing arts. Our amazing lead actors performed with confidence and enthusiasm, while every member of the cast contributed energy, creativity and commitment. A heartfelt thank you goes to our fantastic Performing Arts team for bringing the production to life, and to our wonderfully supportive audience for encouraging and celebrating our young performers. 

The fluoro disco was another highlight of the term. With brightly coloured outfits, glowing accessories, great music and plenty of energetic dancing, the event was filled with fun and laughter. It was fantastic to see our students enjoying time with their friends and contributing to such a vibrant sense of school community. 

In teaching and learning, our focus this term has been on strengthening formative assessment practices. Teachers have continued to use purposeful checks for understanding and provide frequent opportunities for students to respond, ensuring that every learner is actively engaged and that teaching can be adjusted to meet students’ needs. These practices give teachers valuable insight into student progress while helping students recognise their next steps in learning. 

Our wellbeing work has centred on Restorative Practices 2.0 and the ways our everyday interactions help create a safe, respectful and connected school. Staff have focused on the intentional use of language, positive priming and affective statements to clearly communicate expectations and reinforce positive choices. P3, P3 F3 conversations have also supported students to reflect, repair relationships and move forward constructively. 

Congratulations to our students, staff and families on a fantastic term filled with learning, growth, creativity and connection. We wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming you back next term.
