Principal Reflections
Dear Parents and Carers,
Family Mass - Pentecost Sunday
Last Sunday (Pentecost Sunday) we celebrated our first Family Mass for Term 2. The feast of Pentecost asks us to reflect upon the Holy Spirit descending upon the Apostles. Pentecost in Greek means 50th day. The Apostles were gathered to celebrate the Jewish Feast of weeks which fell 50 days after the passover. This feast celebrated the first fruits of the harvest offered to God and also the giving of the law to Moses. The early Church gave it Christian significance with the "new law" heralded by Christ's resurrection. Today we celebrate Pentecost at the conclusion of the Easter season, you guessed it, 50 days after Easter Sunday. The Apostles now had a purpose that united them as one body, to go and proclaim the Good News. This is why you will often hear that Pentecost is the birth of the Church. Theologians, when reflecting on Pentecost, like to think not so much that the Church now had a mission, but moreso, that God's Mission now had a Church. That is definitely worth remembering and celebrating!
Thank you to Mrs Clarke and Fr Roel for supporting our students to celebrate such a significant event in the church's liturgical year.
Winter Uniform
We wish to advise parents that the official date for changeover from summer to winter uniform is generally after the June long weekend (Tuesday 11th June). However, as the weather has turned very chilly, we are now allowing students to wear either full winter (INCLUDING A TIE) or full summer uniform during this transition period. School uniform items are available for purchase from LOWES in Tamworth. Thank you for your ongoing support with ensuring that you send your child to school wearing our correct uniform.
Catholic Schools Week - Week 5
We are looking forward to celebrating Catholic Schools Week next week. Our week will start with the staff from St Nicholas, St Joseph's West Tamworth and St Edward's coming together to be part of a collaborative Professional Development Session. The remainder of the week will involve the school participating in the Deanery Mass, Learning Walks and Talks, Diocesan debates, as well as wearing our favourite footy colours to celebrate the Gary McSweeney Cup on Friday. Please see the attached poster that outlines the key events for Catholic Schools Week. Please use this link if you would like to register for our Learning Walk on Wednesday 29th May to celebrate Catholic Schools Week (places are limited).
National Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June 2024
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As part of Catholic Schools Week, and to recognise National Reconciliation Week, our students will be invited to wear something 'yellow' on Thursday.
Until next week,
Keep smiling,
Alison Hatton
