Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW
A big thank you to our staff and parents for their contributions during last week’s Parent Teacher Interviews. We hope these meetings were insightful and provided a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress for the year ahead. Our next formal Parent Teacher Interviews will take place at the beginning of Term 3. These will be the student-led 3-way conferences, giving students a chance to share their achievements and goals, while offering another opportunity for parents to engage with teachers.
District Swimming Results
Congratulations to the students who participated in District Swimming on Friday. The feedback from the day has been overwhelmingly positive, with our students showing great effort. Special congratulations to the following students for their remarkable achievements and will represent MPW at the Division finals next Tuesday: Michael, Albert, Louis, Mason, Archer, Will and Henry. We wish them all the best for their events.
School Photos
This year’s School Photos will be held on Monday 16th March. As school photo day is typically a busy day to fit everything in, we won’t have an assembly that day. This ensures we can get through all classes and sibling photos on the day.
Further details for ordering online through the Arthur Reed website is in the Education section of the newsletter.
Classroom Helpers Sessions
Anna and I will be running our annual Classroom Helpers induction sessions for parents interested in volunteering in the classroom or helping on excursions. The sessions will cover typical volunteer tasks, as well as important information regarding Child Safety and privacy.
If you’d like to help out this year on an excursion or in the classroom regularly or occasionally, please reach out to your child’s teacher. All parent helpers are required to read through our induction materials on privacy and Child Safety and must have a Working with Children Check to volunteer at the school.
We look forward to welcoming those who can support our teachers and students throughout the year.
The session will be held on Friday 13th March at 9:05am in the Library. A reminder of the induction session will be sent via Compass next week.
NAPLAN
Our year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN assessments next week and the week after. We approach NAPLAN as just another learning activity. It’s an opportunity for students to experience test conditions, and we encourage them to do their best without stress or anxiety. As with all assessments, it’s about having a go and learning from the experience.
Students will have a practice session this Thursday to familiarise themselves with the platform ready for next week.
Learning to Learn
Over the first five weeks, our classes have been focussed on setting up their classroom and learning routines for a safe and orderly learning environment for 2026. Classes have been having discussions about their class Rights and Responsibilities, what good learning looks like, and how to transition from one learning task to another. All these routines are taught so that the class can spend the maximum time on learning. Ask your child about the Learning to Learn aspects of ‘what is a good learner or what is a good teacher?’. It is also important for students to know what makes a good lesson in any of the learning areas to allow for them to apply full effort.
Classes are finalising their Rights and Responsibilities, based on our whole school Rights to: learn, be respected, be included and be safe. Students discuss and agree to their responsibilities to help hold each other to account in these areas whilst at school. Rights and Responsibilities for each class are then presented and displayed in the administration building to celebrate these commitments.
Movie Night
The Movie Night is Friday 20th March, tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite. The movie this year is Paddington In Peru.
This is an inclusive fundraising event for families. We hold stalls on the night providing a BBQ, drinks, and small food (popcorn, fairy floss, etc) to enjoy the night.
The Movie Night is always a great night. Thank you to those parents who will be supporting the organisation and running of the night.
Fingers crossed for nice weather this year!
Finally, a reminder that Monday is the Labour Day Public Holiday. Have a great long weekend!
Regards,
Jarrod Sutton
Principal
