Welcome to our latest newsletter as we head into the final, action-packed fortnight of the term! While the winter chill has truly arrived outside, the dropped temperatures haven't slowed us down one bit. Inside our classrooms, the energy is electric as students put their heads down and work incredibly hard to finish the term on a high note. We are immensely proud of the focus, dedication and resilience everyone is showing as we approach the winter break.

The excitement is building across the school with two massive events on our immediate calendar. Tomorrow, we kick off the festivities with Shine Day, a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate our bright talents, and let our school spirit truly glow.

The buzz continues straight into next week as our students host the spectacular Geography Expo, where you can travel the world and explore global cultures through their incredible interactive displays.

On Wednesday this week our Prep students will celebrate their 100th day of Prep. They will be dressed as 100 year olds or something representing the number 100. This will be a special occasion for them also.

Our teachers are making the final edits on the student reports which we look forward to sharing with you later next week.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm as we power through these last two weeks together. Let's make this final stretch the most memorable one yet!

Emergency Drill Practice

Today the whole school took part in an Emergency Lockdown practice. Every term we are asked to have at least one drill in either evacuation, discreet lockdown or non-discreet lockdowns. Today's was a discreet lockdown and it gave staff the opportunity to use the lockdown function on our new phones. It was very successful and all students took part calmly and sensibly. Next term we will have another evacuation practice.

Term 2 School Fee Statements

The end of Term 2 is fast approaching, so this is a quick reminder to please ensure your school fee payments are up-to-date. Fee statements will be sent to families before the end of this term. For families on a per-term instalment plan, please ensure your Term 2 payment is completed by Friday, 26 June.

For families who have not yet commenced their 2026 fee payments, please make an immediate payment to avoid your account becoming overdue.

If you are experiencing any financial difficulties, please make an appointment with Verona Gridley to discuss via principal@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au. For all other questions or concerns regarding school fees, please email administration@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au for assistance.

St John's Bunnings BBQ - Saturday 27 June

Gallery Image

We would love your support for a couple of hours at our St John's Bunnings BBQ on Saturday, 27th June or just come along and buy a sausage. -  Bunnings Nunawading (250 Whitehorse Road)

To help out, please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/QXPRJ

No experience is necessary.  Just sign up for a 2-hour slot, come along on the day and join in. There are typically 3 people working the BBQ, someone serving the snags and someone collecting payments. All volunteers must be 17 years of age or over which probably rules out all students.

To purchase your entry and $1000 raffle prize tickets, please register with the CDFpay app

New Phones

As you are aware, we installed a new phone system at school. We currently have access to a temporary line that is from MACS. You may have noticed a number other than the school number coming up if we have to call you.

Please save this number in your phone 8907 0986 so that you know it St John's calling you., but do not call this number.

Our original phone number, 9874 1575, is still the main number that you can use to contact us. We hope to have this resolved soon.

Riddle of the Week

If you write this five-letter word in all capital letters, it reads the same right side up and upside down. Which word could it be?

(You will find the answer somewhere in the newsletter)

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making our school community such a wonderful place to be.

Warm regards,

Verona Gridley
