Assistant Principal's Report

     Inclusion, Engagement and Wellbeing

Mr Louis Turner

If the walls could talk...

As someone who looks after the facilities at Greensborough College, I have come to know our buildings well. I walk through them every day, unlocking and locking doors, checking works, and chatting to staff and students. Over time, each space has taken on its own personality. If the walls could talk, they would have a lot to say about the life and learning that fills this school.

In D-Wing, our Technology Wing, the sounds are unmistakable. The steady hum of saws, sanders and grinders mixes with the occasional roar of an engine. The smell of sawdust and metalwork lingers in the air. There is creativity everywhere you look. Along the corridor, the Italian room brings a different kind of energy, often punctuated by a cheerful “Allora!” echoing through the hallway. If those D-Wing walls could speak, they might also say, “Paint me!” Plans are already in place to give both D-Wing and the HP Wing a fresh new look very soon.

The Science labs would tell stories of curiosity and discovery. They have seen experiments bubble and fizz, students lean in close to peer through microscopes, and the occasional queasy look during dissections. There is always that mix of wonder, relief and pride when something finally works.

The L-Wing library would tell quieter stories. It would speak of students lost in books, classes working collaboratively, and others finding a peaceful corner to read or reflect. It would also tell you that Georgia, our librarian, is an incredible source of support and knowledge, always there to help students find what they need, whether it’s the right book, a quiet space, or a kind word. It might even mention the steady stream of students heading to the IT office, asking if they can “just chuck my laptop on charge for a bit.”

The Art rooms would speak in colour. They would tell of painting and drawing, of printmaking and photography, and of students creating their own fashion and design pieces. The HP Wing would recall the goals set and achieved in the High Performance Centre, and the stories captured in the Media Room.

The stadium would hum with energy and teamwork, while the APAC would quite literally sing. Even the locker bays would have their own familiar chorus: “What do we have next?” “Do we have a CAT today?” “Put your phone away!”

If the walls could talk, they would thank our staff and students for filling them with pride, laughter and life.
