A major highlight this term has been our school’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Reaching this milestone is a remarkable achievement, and it was inspiring to see students, staff, families, and alumni come together to honour our history and celebrate the journey we’ve taken as a school. The celebrations were filled with pride, connection, and a strong sense of community spirit that truly reflects who we are.

Another standout event was our Harmony Day Fun Run. Students embraced the day with enthusiasm, demonstrating not only their energy and teamwork but also the important message of inclusivity and respect for diversity.

Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)

In recent weeks, students as well as staff in year 7 and 8 have shown that they have settled into the new year well with many routines, expectations, programs and extra activities now established and ready to continue over the year. Students have been presented daily sessions focussing on phonics and the approach of identifying individual sounds to assist effective reading and writing. It is already delivering greater outcomes in student confidence, literacy tasks and other learning. Some classes have been able to take the opportunity of visiting the farm that our Hands-On Learning program accesses and this has provided an alternative, learning environment as well as new experiences in which to draw from in classroom activities.

We have continued studying the events of the British colonisation of Australia including the voyage of the first Fleet and the settlement in what became called New South Wales  in the 1780’s and the living conditions of Aborigines, convicts and other settlers at the time.  The impact of these events on the Aboriginal people in those years and how they have affected current indigenous generations have also been affected by this.

Year 7 and 8 Students and staff as well as many families very much enjoyed our Special 50th Birthday Celebration day. The activities, food, speeches special additions to the school such as magicians, an ice-cream truck and a farm animal patting experience were a great success. Many people also loved looking through class and other school archives of class and other photos, newsletters, year books and other documents from recent and distant years were a highlight. Many past students and staff were also at the celebration which was a great indication of an ongoing affection for the school. The busy week then ended with Harmony day being celebrated in classes with multicultural activities as well as our school fun run.
