After a long wait, Year 9s will finally be receiving their results for their Morrisby profiling! Students have been given the opportunity to book their own appointment time to sit down with a Morrisby-trained Careers Consultant. These appointments will be taking place over Weeks 9 & 10 of this term. Students are reminded to keep their eyes on Teams over the next two weeks as their appointment times and locations will be sent to them. They will also appear on their Compass timetable.
In assembly last week, students were introduced to the variety of opportunities available to them as they enter Year 10 next year. These include completing an early-start VCE subject, undertaking Early-start VCE VET Sport & Recreation, becoming a Peer Support leader, enrolling in the Sports Excellence programme, or considering the possibility of a CHES subject, for high-achieving students. All of these programmes are application-based, and students are encouraged to start considering the requirements of these as they await the application process to begin.
In line with the subject selection process and receiving their Morrisby results, students will also be completing their Career Action Plans in Explore next week. Information about Career Action Plans has been provided below.
Our Year 10s had a jam-packed assembly this week where our subject selection process has begun to ramp up. Students were provided with information about our three VCE programs on offer in 2025: VCE, VCE-VM Hybrid, and VCE-VM SBAT. Students will be spending the next several weeks in Explore investigating the different options and determining which option is most suitable for them.
The VCE-VM Hybrid and VCE-VM SBAT programs cater to students enrolled in the Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) but differ significantly in structure and commitments.
VCE-VM SBAT
This program combines school-based learning and apprenticeships: Students attend classes for four specific VCE-VM units (Personal Development Skills, Work-Related Skills, Literacy, and Numeracy) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, while participating in School-Based Apprenticeship/ Traineeship (SBAT) activities on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This program includes a selective interview process and is designed for a single class of 20 students.
VCE-VM Hybrid
This program involves full-time school attendance across five days each week, with students completing five VCE or VCE-VM units and a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course in Year 11. This program integrates VCE-VM subjects into the existing school schedule and requires students to take a combination of VCE-VM Literacy or VCE English, VCE-VM Numeracy or a VCE Maths subject, Personal Development Skills, Work-Related Skills, and additional VCE subjects. Work placements for the Hybrid program are conducted in two blocks throughout the year. Neither program makes students eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
If any students are unclear about the options and find it all a bit confusing, they are welcome to approach us in the Pathways Hub where we can provide some more assistance.
Our VCE-VM SBAT program is a selective program, and we are working hard to ensure that we are offering positions to students who are best suited to this option. As part of the selection process, students are required to complete work experience related to the field in which they are interested in, and are encouraged to complete extra work experience throughout the year in order to consolidate their choice. Additionally, it is strongly recommended that students and their families attend our SBAT Information Evening on Tuesday 11th of June (next week) at 6pm. This will be held in the Senior Centre.
During the assembly, we also shared with the students our exciting plans for our annual university and TAFE tours excursion! Students have been given the opportunity to put in their preferences, with the following options available to them:
All excursions are taking place on Wednesday 24th of July and are compulsory for students to attend, with no cost attached. On the day, students will visit two Universities/TAFEs via bus, and will be provided with an introduction to tertiary education and life, with a talk and tour. Allocations to tours will occur next week, once preferences close, and more information about individual excursions will follow. Please keep your eyes on Compass and provide consent when the Events pop up.
A Career Action Plan is a dynamic planning document, owned and managed by a student. The Department of Education requires all students in Years 9 to 12 to complete a Career Action Plan, which is a useful component of career education and development, which will equip students in making pathway-related decisions throughout their life.
Creating a plan is a process of self-reflection and goal-setting. The plan helps students:
Students are required to complete their Career Action Plan with thought and care, and refer back to this useful document and process for assistance in their subject selection and pathway planning.
