Drumming Champion!
Congratulations to Callum Liew (4B) on placing first in drums in the Grade 3–4 category at the Oz Schools Instrumental Championships State Finals last weekend!This fantastic achievement has earned Callum the opportunity to represent Victoria at the National Finals next month. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishment and wish him the very best as he competes at the national level.
Carlton Gardens Chess Team Shines at Two Major Tournaments!
The past two weeks have been a thrilling time for the Carlton Gardens Primary School Chess Team, with our players competing in not one, but two major tournaments and achieving outstanding results!
On 22 November, our team represented CGPS at the Victoria State Championship, where over 120 students from across the state battled it out on the chessboards. Our two youngest team members, Ryan (Prep A) and Scott (2B), played brilliantly and helped the team finish among the Top 5 schools in Victoria, securing a spot in the Grand Finals! Meanwhile, Kaisar and Dada delivered remarkable individual performances, finishing equal 1st in the tournament, an incredible achievement that earned them both a medal and a winner’s cup for their efforts.
Just a week later, on 31 October, the CGPS team competed in the Interschool Semi-Finals hosted by Balwyn North Primary School, where over 100 qualified participants took part. In a terrific tussle for the team trophy, our players rose to the challenge, finishing ahead of powerhouse chess schools including Glen Waverley, Balwyn North, and Glendale. The team also celebrated several individual highlights: Aidan (2B) earning the Star of the Tournament with a score of 6.5/7, along with a Gold (Kaisar, 4B) and a Bronze medal (Dada, 6D) in the Open category!
We’re incredibly proud of every player for their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Their success reflects the growing strength of our chess team and the enthusiasm our students bring to the game.
