This has been a very busy and positive fortnight at Glen Innes High School, with many opportunities for learning, leadership and community connection.

We are proud to continue our involvement in the Rural North Writing Initiative and strengthen our partnership with our feeder primary schools. We look forward to continuing this important work together as we build shared teaching practices and improve writing outcomes for students across Stages 3–4.

Next week, students in Years 7–10 will complete a writing task to collect baseline data so teachers can identify strengths and areas for improvement and better support students’ writing development. Across the school we have been focusing on a punctuation editing checklist, encouraging students to independently edit and improve their own work before submitting it.

Families can support this work at home by encouraging students to re-read their writing aloud, checking for capital letters and correct punctuation, asking students to explain what they have written, and supporting regular reading at home to build vocabulary and sentence structure. Working together makes a significant difference in developing student confidence as writers.

We proudly welcomed our 2026 SRC leadership team and look forward to the positive impact they will make across the school. We also acknowledged our Swimming Age Champions and congratulate all students who represented the school so positively at the carnival, demonstrating excellent effort, sportsmanship and team spirit. Congratulations to Thomas for being the winning house.

Glen Innes High School recently hosted the Principals Network Meeting and welcomed over 35 visitors to our school. Our captains shared the history of our school, we had a meaningful Acknowledgement of Country, and our dance and music students performed beautifully. A huge thank you to all staff and students involved in organising the day, and a special thank you to Kerry Hill for catering — the food was exceptional and enjoyed by all.

We also held a very successful Year 7 Welcome BBQ where families joined us for activities and dinner together, followed by a disco that gave students a great opportunity to socialise and build friendships. It was wonderful to meet our new families and strengthen our school community connections.

Thank you to the parents and carers who attended our Positive Behaviour and Wellbeing Evening. We greatly appreciate your support and partnership as we continue to build a positive, safe and supportive school environment for all students.

A reminder that school photos will take place on Wednesday 4 March. All students are required to be photographed and must attend in full school uniform, even if families are not purchasing photos.

As the weather begins to cool, we ask families to ensure students are in correct uniform every day. Non-school coloured jumpers are not permitted, and hoodies are not to be worn at school. We appreciate your support in maintaining high expectations and school pride.
