PARTY BAGS IN SCHOOL

Dear Families,

As part of our ongoing commitment to students’ health and safety, we continually review our practices in line with the Department for Education's Anaphylaxis and Allergies Procedure. This policy provides schools with guidance on minimising risks associated with allergies, particularly those that could lead to serious reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Allergy triggers may be present in shared foods or items brought into the classroom (such as party bags). While the department does not recommend formal blanket bans, it advises schools to implement appropriate risk minimisation strategies and educate the community about allergy risks. In consultation with current health guidance, and to best protect students with severe allergies, our school will no longer permit the distribution of party bags during class time or school activities.

This measure is one of several risk minimisation strategies designed to reduce the likelihood of food allergen exposure and accidental food sharing.

We also encourage:

  • Families to provide food from home only for their children
  • No food sharing or distribution among students
  • Awareness around ingredient lists and potential risks associated with packaged or home-made items

We request your support to create a safe environment for all students. If you wish to celebrate special occasions, please coordinate with your child’s class teacher in advance to discuss allergy-aware alternatives.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in prioritising the health and safety of every child in our school community.
