As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting both children and their families, we’re always on the lookout for trusted resources and expert guidance that can help us nurture and strengthen the care we provide, both in the classroom and beyond.

We’re pleased to share a valuable resource from Dr Billy Garvey, a highly respected paediatrician with over 20 years of experience working with children and families. Dr Garvey is the host of the acclaimed podcast Pop Culture Parenting and the author of Ten Things I Wish You Knew About Your Child’s Mental Health — a compassionate and practical guide to supporting children’s mental health.

Dr Garvey will be presenting two free parent information sessions hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Shire on Thursday 28th of August at the Peninsula Community Theatre, 91 Wilsons Road, Mornington.

PODCAST:

Pop Culture Parenting is a podcast about finding the sweet spot between the textbooks and real life when it comes to parenting. Dr Billy Garvey (a developmental paediatrician) and Nick (a developing parent) are a couple of dads having honest discussions about parenting day to day.

It’s hard to pick the best episodes as there will be something everyone can connect with but here are a few worthwhile. Each episode links to a movie accompanied by a reflection episode.

Ally Langdon and Dr Justin Coulson (psychologist) are back with Season 3 for the thought-provoking series that asks Australians to engage in critical, and sometimes controversial, parenting conversations. Season 3 is a 4-part series covering four very current topics including Screen Time, Peer Pressure, Body Image and Mental Health. All four episodes are worth watching.
