CLASSROOM NEWS!

Prep/1 News

In Mathematics, Prep and Grade 1 students have been developing their number knowledge through a range of hands-on learning experiences. Prep students have been working on recognising, reading and representing teen numbers, connecting number names, numerals and collections using ten frames, counters and number books. Grade 1 students have been building their understanding of number lines, locating numbers to 100, identifying patterns, skip counting, and using sharing strategies to solve simple equal groups problems. It has been fantastic to see students growing in confidence, using mathematical language, and having a go at explaining their thinking.

In Physical Education, students have been having lots of fun developing their movement skills, teamwork and confidence through active games and structured activities. They have participated AFL based PE lessons focused on kicking and teamwork, while learning how to play safely and support one another.

In Digital Technologies, students have been exploring how digital devices can be used to record information and help solve everyday problems. Through a mock library borrowing activity, students learned how digital systems can be used to keep track of borrowed books and organise important information. They also participated in a lost property picture activity, where they used digital tools to help identify and sort missing items, developing their understanding of how technology can be used to solve simple real-world problems in meaningful and engaging ways.

Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in our Cultural Day celebrations, where they explored culture, creativity and traditional activities through hands-on experiences. They created beautiful headbands using natural materials such as sticks, feathers and other nature-inspired decorations, designed their own football guernseys, and had lots of fun playing traditional outdoor games together. It was a fantastic day of learning, creativity and celebration, with students representing our school wonderfully while embracing new experiences.

Team 2/3 News

We have had a busy fortnight with the Cultural Day and Mother's Day Movie Night Celebration, along with the business of everyday school life. We have been beginning each literacy and maths lesson by giving our students a heads up about what we expect them to learn in each session. We share the learning objectives and success criteria. The success criteria includes three levels of achievement that the students can work towards.

In Maths, we have continued with our Data topic, where the students have been identifying categories for data collection, collecting the data and making picture graphs with Mrs. T. We have also continued our work on multiplication and recalling our basic facts quickly.

In Literacy, we have begun using our new school learning model to plan our lessons. our students have been reading a variety of narrative texts to find the main idea. They then use evidence from the text to prove that what they think is the main idea, is in fact, the main idea. They are doing a great job with this. Our students have been reviewing their understanding of simple and compound sentences, clarifying any misunderstandings and identifying the traits that make them different.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be conducting some assessements in maths and literacy to identify areas of progress and areas for future learning. To assist your child to do their best it would be an advantage if they came to school refreshed each morning after a good nights sleep. Unfortunately, our morning checks show that many of our students are checking in tired each day!

The Cultural Day organised by Mrs. Lawson was a huge success with students from all schools enjoying the activities and being together, as can be seen by the photos!

4/5/6 News

‘Readers’ Theatre’ has been a new favourite activity in Literacy- this is a short daily session where the students are put into groups and practice reading the same short script out loud for the entire week, preparing to perform it for the rest of the class on Friday! This is a way to help our students improve their pace, expression and confidence when reading aloud, and they are already improving a lot after just a few days.

We finished our fractions unit in Maths, and had great results! The students worked hard and were able to apply their learning to achieve some really impressive growth, and they should be proud of their effort. We are now using all of our knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages to help us discuss chance and probability, which the students are tackling head-on.

Our Cultural Day last Thursday was a highlight of the past two weeks, and the students all enthusiastically participated in learning about a variety of games and crafts. It was especially great seeing everyone in our class interacting and having fun with all of the students from the other participating schools, and they were an excellent representation of our school values.
