The Year 12 Parent Forum was held on Monday 18 August and was very well attended by families keen to engage with the College as students move through the final months of Year 12. The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the year so far and to share key messages about the support available to ensure a strong finish.

Parents heard about College expectations, the importance of engagement in lessons, and the need to maintain consistent routines as students prepare for examinations and assessments. The forum also highlighted the range of pastoral and wellbeing support available, from mentors and classroom teachers to the broader Wellbeing and Careers teams, ensuring that each student has guidance and care throughout this critical year.

Families were given information about tertiary pathways, applications, scholarships, and other post-school opportunities, and were encouraged to maintain open communication with the College to best support their child’s progress and wellbeing.

Overall, the Parent Forum was a positive and informative evening, allowing families to connect with staff, gain clarity about expectations and opportunities, and celebrate the Year 12 cohort. It reinforced the partnership between students, parents, and staff as the final weeks of schooling draw near.

ACS Night Football Game

The recent Night Game against Loyola was a fantastic evening of football and community spirit shown by our Senior School students. The girls fought hard but went down 6.8 (44) to 1.2 (8), while the boys secured a strong win 7.10 (52) to 5.8 (38), with our Year 11 student Aidan Brophy named Best on Ground.

Pre-match celebrations, led brilliantly by our student executive students Ben D and Charlie O, welcomed back previous students Amelia Velardo and Campbell Gray which set the tone for a fantastic evening. The event also raised valuable funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, making it a memorable night both on and off the field. Thank you to all students and staff who were involved in any aspect of the event, your support was greatly appreciated.

The Overnewton String Orchestra is to be congratulated on their “Gold Standard” award at the Victorian Schools Music Festival in which they participated on Friday. The internationally recognised adjudicator was impressed by “the power and energy of their sound”.

The orchestra leader is College Captain, Nathan Yuan. He, and other Year 12 students have a significant leadership role in this ensemble that includes a number of younger students under the directorship of Mrs Prue Jury.

All the College String ensembles will feature at the “Luminescent Strings” concert that is part of the Festival of Music, on Monday 1st September at Brimbank Salvation Army. For ticketing details, and information about learning an instrument at the College turn to the Encore Music & Theatre page in this edition of Whispers.
