Dear Palm Beach State School Community,

As we reflect on the past term, I want to take a moment to thank you all for your continued support and involvement in our school community. It has been a wonderful term filled with learning, growth, and achievements, and it’s all made possible by the incredible partnership between our students, staff, and families. As we approach the school holidays, I hope you all have an opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation. For those fortunate enough to be heading away, safe travels, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for the start of Term 3 on Monday, 13 July. 

Athletics Carnivals 

Unfortunately, the persistent rain we experienced this term has left our school oval saturated, forcing us to postpone the athletics carnivals that were scheduled for this week. However, we are excited to announce that the events will now take place in Week 1, Term 3. 

- Senior Athletics Carnivals: Tuesday, 14 July, and Wednesday, 15 July 

- Junior Athletics Carnival: Thursday, 16 July 

We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate their athletic skills and sportsmanship.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations 

Palm Beach State School will proudly celebrate NAIDOC Week during Week 2 of Term 3. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to recognise and honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. More information about the planned activities will be shared early next term. 

The Big Freeze 

On Friday of Week 2, Term 3, our Student Council will host a special fundraiser in support of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This event holds particular significance for our school community as we stand in support of Jai Arrow, a former Palm Beach State School student and celebrated Rugby League player, who has sadly been recently diagnosed with MND. 

The event will raise funds for this critical cause, and we encourage everyone to get involved. More details will be shared on our Facebook page, DOJO, and other communication channels early next term. Let’s come together to make this an impactful event for Jai and to support the MND cause.

Report Cards 

Semester One report cards will be sent home this week, and it has been heartening to see so many of our students achieving outstanding academic results. Even more impressive, however, are the many exceptional results achieved in effort and attitude, which reflect the hard work and dedication of our students. 

Parents and carers are encouraged to review the report cards with their children to celebrate their achievements and identify areas for growth. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact their classroom teacher to arrange a meeting. 

Book Your Child's 2027 Prep Enrolment Interview

We are excited to welcome future Prep students and their families as we begin preparations for the 2027 school year.

As part of the enrolment process, all prospective Prep students and their parents are invited to attend a short enrolment interview in the Library building. These interviews take approximately 10 minutes and provide an opportunity to get to know your child before they begin their schooling journey.

During the interview, a few simple questions will be asked about your child's interests, learning needs, and any medical information that may assist us in supporting them as they transition to school. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend.

School Uniform 

At Palm Beach State School, we take great pride in our students presenting themselves in their full and correct school uniform, as outlined in the Palm Beach State School Uniform Policy. The upcoming holidays are a great time to check that your child has all the required uniform items. 

Please ensure that students return to school in Term 3 with: 

- All black shoes (no white soles or trims) 

- White socks 

- Hair in natural colours and free of tracks or extreme styles 

Maintaining high standards in our uniform reflects the pride we have in our school and helps create a sense of belonging for every student. Thank you for your support in ensuring these standards continue to be upheld. 

School Strategic Planning 

As part of the Department of Education’s requirements, all Queensland state schools undertake a Strategic Planning process every four years to set the direction for the next phase of improvement. At Palm Beach State School, we are committed to continually enhancing our school’s culture, learning outcomes, and community engagement. 

Throughout Semester 2, we will be seeking input from our school community to help shape this direction together. Please keep an eye out for opportunities to share your valuable perspectives in the coming weeks. Your voice is vital in planning for the future of our school. 

Interschool Surfing Competition

Our recent Interschool Surfing Competition at Burleigh Point was a tremendous success, bringing together talented surfers from schools across the Southern Gold Coast, including Burleigh Heads SS, Currumbin SS, Coolangatta SS, Elanora SS, and Tallebudgera SS. We were also thrilled to welcome Coolum SS from the Sunshine Coast to this event, making it an even more exciting and competitive day.

Congratulations to all our Palm Beach State School surfers on their outstanding performances and sportsmanship. A special thank you to Mr Cocks and Mr Locke for their ongoing dedication to our surfing program and for creating such fantastic opportunities for our students to showcase and develop their skills. We look forward to our next competition, ‘The Palmy Classic’ on August 20th!

Staffing Updates 

We are delighted to announce the return of two valued members of our teaching team next term. Mrs Eliza McGregor will be re-joining us as the teacher for 3C on Thursdays and Fridays, and Mrs Kelly Bailey will return to 5C, also on Thursdays and Fridays. We are thrilled to welcome them back and know that their expertise and enthusiasm will be greatly appreciated by both students and colleagues.
