Hello Palm Beach State School community. It's hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of the term. Time certainly flies when the school is buzzing with activity! It is wonderful to see the high-quality learning taking place, students challenging themselves, and teachers creating engaging learning experiences in our classrooms each day at our school. Most importantly, our classrooms are filled with happy, connected and thriving children. While there is always plenty happening around our school, seeing students enjoying their learning and feeling a genuine sense of belonging is what matters most, and it is something we are incredibly proud of at Palm Beach State School.
School Opinion Survey
This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 27 July to 21 August. Parents, carers, students in selected year levels, and staff have been emailed a link to participate. The survey invitation email uses the subject line: School Opinion Survey for parents/caregivers, 2026; if you can’t find the e-mail you should check junk email folders. Your feedback will help us understand our school’s strengths and areas for improvement. Survey responses are confidential. Uniform Expectations
Our Palm Beach State School Dress Code Policy, signed by all families on enrolment and supported by our P&C, clearly outlines expectations for student uniform and appearance. This includes that hair must be clean and neat, and that coloured hair, rat tails, tracks and razor cuts are not permitted. Recently, there has been an increase in students attending school with hair colouring, particularly blonde or white colouring, which does not meet our policy. I kindly ask families to ensure their child’s uniform and hair presentation align with the Dress Code Policy as soon as possible. While the policy allows the school to respond to non-compliance, including exclusion from non-essential activities such as sport and camps, I hope this will not be necessary and appreciate your support in addressing this promptly.
NAIDOC Week
In Week 2 this term, Palm Beach State School proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week with a range of learning activities across the week, culminating in a wonderful whole-school performance by Gumpi and his dance group. Students were captivated by the traditional Aboriginal dances and storytelling, providing an authentic opportunity to celebrate and learn about Aboriginal culture, history and traditions. It was a highly successful week that reinforced the importance of recognising and celebrating the world's oldest continuing culture. Thank you to all staff who organised engaging learning experiences for our students throughout the week.
MND Fundraiser
Congratulations to our Student Council for their outstanding efforts in raising over $8,000 for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and support. This was a fantastic achievement and reflects the generosity of our school community. This fundraiser holds special significance for Palm Beach State School, with former student and NRL player Jai Arrow recently being diagnosed with MND. It was wonderful to see our students rally behind such an important cause and make a meaningful difference. A special thank you to our Year 6 team for their organisation of the event and to the many families, local businesses and community members who generously donated the incredible raffle prizes that helped make the fundraiser such a success.
100 Days of Prep
In Week 1, our Prep students celebrated their first 100 Days of School. It was a fantastic celebration and an opportunity to reflect on just how much our youngest learners have grown in confidence, independence and learning since beginning their school journey. The progress they have made in such a short time has been remarkable, and we look forward to watching each of them continue to grow and thrive throughout their years at Palm Beach State School.
All Schools Oz Tag
Recently, Palm Beach State School entered a team into the All-Schools Oztag Tournament on the Sunshine Coast for the very first time. Congratulations to all our players and their families on an outstanding achievement, with our team progressing all the way to the Grand Final and finishing as runners-up. The team demonstrated exceptional determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition and represented our school with pride. A huge thank you to our parents, Jekoha and Brock Graham for their significant amount of work involved in organising this opportunity for our students and all of the other families that helped out at the event. Congratulations to Rex in Year 5 who received the Tournament MVP!

Cross Country
Congratulations to Aria (Yr 5) and Emerson (Yr 4) who represented Palm Beach State School at the recent State Cross Country titles. Our students displayed outstanding determination, resilience and sportsmanship while competing against athletes from across Queensland. A special congratulations to Emerson who made the Queensland team to compete at the National titles in Sydney on the 14 - 17 September. We wish him all the very best for this event!
Athletics Carnivals
After several attempts that were unfortunately disrupted by the weather, it was fantastic to finally complete our Athletics Carnivals this term. Congratulations to every student who participated and gave their best throughout the events. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, demonstrating resilience and displaying outstanding sportsmanship. Congratulations also to our Sports Captains, who did an exceptional job leading their teams throughout the carnivals. A sincere thank you to Mr Locke and Miss B for their excellent organisation of the carnivals and to Mr Pete, who very patiently marked out the athletics fields on several occasions due to the weather interruptions.
Year 4 Camp
This week our Year 4 students are heading off to the Currumbin Valley Farm School for their annual camp. For many students, this will be their first experience staying away from home, making it an exciting milestone in their school journey. The camp provides students with a range of engaging outdoor experiences, with a strong focus on teamwork, resilience and connecting to Country. We are confident they will have a wonderful time creating lasting memories. A heartfelt thank you goes to our staff who generously give up time away from their own families to provide these valuable experiences for our students.
Prep - 2027
If you have a child starting Prep in 2027, now is the time to enrol. Enrolment forms are available from the school office, and we encourage families to submit their application as soon as possible to secure their child's place.
We have already commenced over 100 Prep interviews, and enrolments are being received quickly. To assist with our planning and ensure your child has the best possible start to their schooling journey, please don't delay your enrolment.
If you know of family members, friends or neighbours with a child eligible to start Prep in 2027 who reside in the catchment area, please encourage them to enrol as soon as possible. We look forward to welcoming our newest PBSS learners next year!
Excursion and Event Payments – Please Pay by the Due Date
At Palm Beach State School, we work hard to provide our students with a wide range of exciting excursions, camps and special events that enrich their learning and create lasting memories. We understand that no family wants their child to miss out—and neither do we.
To make these experiences possible, there are many processes that happen behind the scenes, including confirming bookings, arranging transport, finalising numbers, processing payments and meeting strict deadlines set by external providers. For this reason, payment due dates are not flexible.
Families are provided with plenty of notice before an excursion or event, along with multiple reminders leading up to the payment deadline. It is the responsibility of parents and carers to ensure payments are made by the advertised due date. Unfortunately, if payment is not received on time, we are unable to accept late payments, and this may mean your child is unable to attend.
Our office staff are simply following the school's processes and the requirements of our providers. We ask that all interactions with our staff remain respectful, even if your child has missed a payment deadline. They do not set the deadlines and are doing their best to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
