Sports Academy Applications for 2025 are now open! If your child is interested in being part of Lowanna’s prestigious Sports Academy, whether they are currently enrolled as a student or wanting to enroll for next year, we encourage you to express your interest via the below link.
**Current Sports Academy students are required to re-apply for the program each year.

West Gippsland Netball
On Tuesday the 4th of June, four teams from the college played in the West Gippsland round of netball with two Intermediate Girls teams and one Intermediate Boys team, alongside a Senior Girls team. Both Intermediate Girls teams made the Grand Final, however both teams unfortunately lost with the Intermediate Girls A team only losing by 1 point against Marist Sion College. Our Senior Girls team were up against some competitive schools, unfortunately unable to grasp a win. Our Intermediate Boys team however, came out undefeated, winning by 1 point against Marist Sion College and advancing to the next round. Well done to everyone who competed.
Gippsland Cross Country
On Thursday the 6th of June, ten students competed in the Gippsland Cross Country with five students successfully making it to state level, placing in the top 12 in their age group. Four of our Year 7 boys competed in the 12/13yo category with Chad McIntosh placing 5th, advancing to state finals. The four boys also received 2nd place for their team effort. Year 8 student, Brady Cake, competed in the 14yo Boys age group, placing 12th and advancing to state finals. Competing in the 15yo age group, Summer Cooper placed 3rd place earning herself a medal for her amazing run. Senior students Zoe Cotter and Kyson Cornwall both made it to the state level with Zoe placing 6th in the 17-20yo Girls age group, and Kyson being awarded 1st place in the only 5km run on the day. Well done to all who competed and congratulations to those who will be progressing to state finals.
West Gippsland Soccer
On Thursday the 6th of June, some of our Intermediate Boys competed in the West Gippsland soccer. Having a successful day, the boys were undefeated winning the Grand Final against Marist Sion College and will advance to the Gippsland Round where they will compete in hopes of making it to the state level.
Athlete of the Month
This month, the Athlete of the Month was awarded to Fraser Aubrey. Fraser recently competed in the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide and won a silver medal for his outstanding performance in the 1500m walk race. Well done, Fraser.
Netball
Congratulations to Miley Kelly and Chloe Van Den Dolder who have both recently played in their milestone game of 50 games for Moe Football Netball Club.
Some of our Sports Academy netballers competed in the Eastern Association Champs with M&DNA U15s girls where Zekiya Glibanovic and Chloe Van Den Dolder finished 5th. The M&DNA U17s girls with Lexi Micallef, Riley Donelly, Layna Hale and Meg O’Reilly lost the semifinal by nine points.
Moe Football Netball Club recently held the MND Round, where Sports Academy Netball Coach Ramayer Gourley playing alongside Sports Academy Graduate Charlize Bird.
Football
Congratulations to Xavier Ladbrook for being selected in the U16 Vic Country Team for football. Xavier will be travelling to the Gold Coast in early July for two games against Western Australia and South Australia. Good luck Xavier and congratulations!
Two of our Sports Academy students, Ryder Bechaz and Sam McConachy, recently competed for the Latrobe Valley in the Gippsland All Stars Footy. Ryder received Best on Ground for the U14s alongside Sam McConachy who received Best on Ground for the U15s side. Well done boys and congratulations.
Volleyball
Year 11 Sports Academy student Ayla Grbic was selected for the Latrobe Valley Volleyball team to compete in the Women’s Division 1 Victorian Country Volleyball Championships. On Monday the 10th of June, Ayla competed in the gold medal match with her team against Horsham, winning the title 3-0. Well done Ayla, congratulations!
At the end of May, a Sports Psychologist from Condor Performance visited the college and facilitated a presentation to our students about how they can improve their performance through positive thinking and their mentality. We hope our students enjoyed the presentation and took home some key information to help them into the future.
Physioworks Health Group’s Madison Klooster is the team physiotherapist for the Allies Team at the Marsh AFL National Championships (U18 Boys), where Year 12 Sports Academy student Ricky Mentha plays.
Lowanna College has entered a Junior and Intermediate Girls team into the School Netball Championships Cup which will be held on the 24th of July 2024.
