Year Eight

Year 8 Visual Art

In Art this term, students have been investigating and responding to the statement of inquiry: "A genre can communicate and express one’s cultural and social values and beliefs." Over the last few weeks, students have been exploring the symbolic world of street art.

They have learned to distinguish between graffiti and street art and have discovered how artists communicate through symbolic imagery and colour. This week, students have been given a choice between creating a work that represents a character from their literary study of "The Hunger Games" or developing a piece based on a theme or area of interest they would like to raise awareness about.

Students have learned about the different techniques and processes street artists use to create large-scale works. To replicate this, they are learning about different printmaking techniques and processes to develop a symbolic work of art.

We are looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Year 8 Physical Education

Rugby

The students have begun their Rugby practice sessions. Over the last couple of weeks the Year 8 students have been learning one of Rugby’s fundamental techniques called “Pop Passes”. Pop passes are a dynamic aspect of the game that require team work, coordination and quick thinking.

Beep Test

The Year 8 students have also excelled in the beep test, demonstrating impressive performance and fitness levels. The beep test assesses their cardiovascular fitness, perseverance and goal setting. They were really enthusiastic during this fitness activity.

Year 8 Health

Body Systems

In Health, The Year 8 students have been learning about “Body Systems”. We have explored the functions and structures of the “Musculoskeletal system” including bones, muscles and joints. Students have learned about the crucial role these components play in supporting the body, enabling movement and protecting their vital organs.

Year 8 Science

Organ Systems/Body Systems

In Science, Year 8 students have been delving into the study of various animal body systems, with a special emphasis on the human body. They will further investigate the functionality and interrelationships of these systems, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the distinct parts of each system and their specific roles. To enhance their learning experience, the students will also participate in a hands-on dissection of a sheep heart, allowing them to closely examine its intricate structure and gain a profound insight into its operational mechanics.
