Year Seven
English
Over the past fortnight, our Year Seven students have been wrapping up their journalism unit. The latter half of the unit engaged them in exploring various facets of digital journalism, including podcasts, blogging, and newsletters. They also developed an understanding of identifying false news in the media, culminating in the creation of their own satirical fake news articles—a task that brought both fun and critical insights.
As we look forward to the upcoming week, the students have been presented with an exciting assessment task. Students will assume the role of a journalist, selecting a preferred medium to address and communicate solutions for a water issue in a specific region. This task will challenge them to employ both their critical and creative thinking skills to devise innovative solutions and effectively communicate these ideas to the public.
We eagerly anticipate the inventive solutions and the thoughtful presentations our students will develop. In the meantime, we invite you to review some exemplary work produced by our talented Year Seven journalists in the making!
Science
In Science, students have learned about the structure of matter and how it is composed of pure substances a
nd mixtures. They eagerly researched the definitions of homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures, suspensions, colloids, and saturated, unsaturated, and supersaturated solutions. This foundational knowledge is essential for understanding many scientific concepts and real-world applications.
Students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the science lab and explore the practical experiment, “What is soluble in water?” They predicted the results before conducting the investigation and then wrote their observations. This hands-on experience helped them understand solubility better and see how theory applies in practice.
In addition to these activities, students participated in group discussions and collaborative projects to further explore the topic. It was great to see students so engaged, showing creativity and critical thinking in their projects. They completed their “Matter Mind Map” project with enthusiasm, demonstrating their understanding of the subject in a comprehensive and visually appealing way. This project allowed them to connect different concepts related to matter and present their knowledge clearly.
One day Series - West
We wish to share some highlights from our recent volleyball tournament held at MSAC. Our year 7/8 boys and girls teams had the chance to display their volleyball skills against other schools. Led by our captains Numi and Tiana, our boys and girls teams gave their all throughout the day. Despite facing tough competition, our boys team (Naz, Koen, Hayde Gwin, Hayden Nguyen, Zavier, Elijah, A.J, Sebastian) demonstrated unwavering spirit, although they were unable to secure a medal this time. However, our girls team (Eseta, Layla, Aaleahya, Ava, Tara, Justus, Jaynah, Laiba, Lilly, Akira) truly shone on the court, winning several games and ultimately clinching the bronze medal—an incredible achievement for our school! Special shout out to Trinity and Hayden Nguyen who both took on the role of assistant coaches during all the matches. We extend a big thank you to all the parents and guardians whose support played a pivotal role in our teams' success. Wie eagerly anticipate future tournaments and the opportunity to continue representing our school with pride.
