Year Two

Dear Year Two Community,

We are continuing to have an incredible term in Year Two. We are delving into our class novels and the children are excited to learn what happens next in the book. We have started our third unit of inquiry with the transdisciplinary theme 'Sharing the Planet.' Our central idea for this unit is 'All cultures share the planet with first nations people.'

Reading

The students have explored various texts through independent reading or whole class texts. These texts have helped the children develop their knowledge about inferring and understanding that to infer means to make a conclusion or a opinion based on evidence.

Writing

The students have continued to developing awareness of key elements of persuasive text. They have developed their own opinions and supporting reasons to enable them to persuade an audience. They have been able to use paragraphs to clearly show their reasons to support their opinion.

Maths

In mathematics, students have explored location. Students have been able to create maps using directional language. This learning has helped them understand their left and right, and quarter and half rotations. The children thoroughly enjoyed following their friends directions. Students have also been risk takers and ordered outcomes of everyday events. This has helped them develop their knowledge around chance. They understand if an event will be likely, unlikely, impossible and certain.

Inquiry

The students researched their chosen body system using a variety of texts. They were fascinated by the new information they gathered. They were able to share their new knowledge through the creation of a video. Students had provocation day which introduced to their new Unit of Inquiry with the central idea 'All cultures share the planet with first nations people.' The students had lengthy conversations about how people share their culture with other cultures.
