Naranga Nude Food Days
As a Resource Smart School, we are very keen to reduce waste. So, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays are Nude Food days. Lunchboxes are a wonderful place to start.
What is Nude Food?
It is natural, fresh food such as fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, and baked goods that you can pack in a school lunchbox without wrapping in foil or plastic.
Using small containers, a lunchbox with compartments or a reusable food bag or pouch reduces waste and provides an excellent litter free lunch. Lower Juniors just beginning the school year have some fantastic examples.
Our school community is doing an excellent job each day to reduce the amount of plastic wrap in school lunches by preparing fresh food from home or emptying food from a large container into smaller compartments of a clear lunch box container.
LEARNING ABOUT LIVING THINGS
Junior Mason are learning about growing seeds. They are very excited with the progress of their broad bean seeds after a few weeks in a sunny spot. Through the window of their mini green houses they can see the roots, stems an leaves of the broad bean seedlings.
Pathways Sustainability students want us all to reduce the amount of paper in the recycling bins by thoughfully getting students to reuse or repurpose scrap paper and staff to try and reduce the amount of photocopied paper.
RECYCLING IN THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
RECYCLING STATIONS AT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY
What do you do with old glasses, x-rays, mobile phones, light globes, CDs, DVDs and used batteries?
Instead of throwing these items into landfill where they would be unsafe and could contaminate items, why not take them to your local recycling station. This is a free service.
- Seaford, Carrum Down and Frankston libraries have a recycling station.
- For enormous quantities you can take items to the Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre at Skye.
