From the Year 3 Classroom

RE

Lat week we commenced our new Source of Life unit; ‘Sacraments of Initiation.’ For the remainder of the term, we will be looking at the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, their symbols and the rite of each Sacrament.

Maths

Well done to all our students for completing the Data Unit! Over the past few weeks, you’ve done a fantastic job learning how to collect, organize, and present data. It was wonderful to see students survey your classmates and create graphs that helped us learn more about each other.

As we wrap up this unit, we’re now moving into our second session on addition and subtraction to finish off the term. Ready to sharpen those number skills and have some fun with problem-solving!

Inquiry- Heat energy

Last week we conducted an experiment into what conduction is. We tested butter on various spoons- plastic, wood and metal and watched how long it took for the butter to melt once the spoons were put into a cup of hot water.

Reading

Over the past two weeks we have been reading non-fiction narratives and looking at the rich vocabulary used by authors. We have also been working on summarising what we have read. During our authentic reading time we have been focusing on both our reading stamina and fluency.

Just a reminder that students are expected to read at home during the school week and fill in their reading diaries and return these on Friday.  We are currently experiencing a very poor return rate.  We ask parents to assist their children in filling in their reading diaries and remind them to return them on a Friday.

Writing- Summarising Non Fiction texts

In the past week we have been summarising Non Fiction texts using the acronym TAMK. Summarising is an important skill that helps your child understand the text and remember what they have just learnt/read. When reading a fact book or newspaper you could ask them to use it at home to check their understanding.

School Incursion –Googabinj was a hit with the kids on Monday where they learnt all about Indigenous culture, hunting stories, music and Dreaming.
