From the Year 2 Classroom

It's hard to believe there is only 2 weeks left of Term 2. The weather has definitely turned chilly and it is great to see the children coming to school rugged up and suited for the cold weather. A reminder that with all these layers, children need their names clearly labelled on jackets, beanies and jumpers as they tend to go walk about and left in places throughout the school. Please remember also that if your child is sick, that they stay home and rest to help stop the spread. We are reminding the children as best we can to keep sanitising, washing and wiping as best they can.
In Literacy-we are continuing to look at the skill of questioning when reading as this helps us understand the text better and makes us stronger readers. Asking questions before, in the middle and at the end is great to focus on vocabulary, setting, characters and predictions. We are learning about prepositions in Grammar and focussing carefully on our handwriting. In writing we are looking at journal entries and next week beginning a non-fiction narrative where the children will use information from a life cycle to create a creative story.
In Maths- we have been continuing our learning on addition and subtraction and using the strategy of re-grouping. The students are trying very hard to master this skill. We are also learning about measurement- comparing and ordering mass using balancing scales and identifying and using units of measurement for capacity.
In Inquiry- the children have loved learning about a country/place of their choice and creating a poster with their information they searched up on their own. They have included facts such as the population, currency, landmarks and colours of the flag. They will soon be learning more about our world, different hemispheres, changes in weather and different season.
The children loved the Googabinj incursion on Monday where they learnt and listened about the Indigenous Australians culture, language, and instruments. They were able to use this knowledge in the library where they created some natural symbols.
