From the Year Prep Classroom

Hello Prep Families!

We’ve had another wonderful fortnight of learning, laughter, and growing together in Prep. There continues to be a lot of different nasty bugs floating around, please make sure if your little one is unwell, they get the rest they need before returning to school. Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been up to in class:

We’ve just wrapped up our learning of the fourth set of letters: e, n, g, and l. The children are becoming much more confident with sounding out words and blending sounds together, go Prep! We’ve also been exploring consonant blends like st in stop and post. A big thank you to families who have been logging into the InitiaLit Library at home, it’s such a valuable way to support your child’s reading journey.

Our little writers are on fire! We’re so proud of how hard they are working to write sentences that include capital letters and full stops. It’s no easy feat, sounding out words, remembering letters that match the sounds they hear, writing neatly on the lines, it takes real brainpower! But they are rising to the challenge beautifully and their confidence is growing every day.

This fortnight has been all about teen numbers! Ask your child what a teen number is, and chances are you’ll hear, “It starts with a 1 and the 1 means a group of 10!” We’ve been exploring how teen numbers are made up of ten and some more, and this week we’re diving into ordering and comparing them. The children are doing a brilliant job making sense of these concepts which will give them a great foundation to start working with some larger numbers in the second half of the year!

We’ve been learning about the Feast of the Sacred Heart, which holds special meaning for us here at school, as it’s our namesake. The children have been learning that this feast honours the heart of Jesus as a symbol of his deep love for all people. It’s a special time to reflect on kindness, compassion, and the ways we can share Jesus’ love with others. We’ll be celebrating this day with a whole-school Mass alongside Sacred Heart College. If you’re free, we’d love to see you at the MPB on Friday at 10am.

Monday the 23rd is an exciting day for us in the Prep space as we welcome Mrs Bourne back! We are so excited to welcome her back and her smiling face back in the Prep area again!

Thanks as always for your support at home and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards, The Prep Team
