From the Year 4 Classroom

Tabloid Sports  - The children enjoyed the tabloid sports morning last Friday, even though it was quite chilly. They showed great sportsmanship and encouraged each other during the activities.  

Sacred Heart Mass - Our Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart is this Friday at 10:00am in the MPB. You are most welcome to join us for our school celebration.  

Lions Club Public Speaking – Congratulations to the children who took part in the Lions Club speaking presentations. Well done to Farley Simmons and Mackenzie Wright who were chosen to go through to the next round on 20th July. We wish them luck for the day. 

In Religion, we have looked at the Gifts of the Spirit and the link between Baptism and Confirmation, the Eucharist and parts of the Mass. We have also learnt about the parts of the Mass and the special meaning of the Eucharist. The Sacramental children will receive Communion at Mass on Friday, and the others will receive a blessing. We will celebrate our Sacramental journey with a Year 4 party on Monday, 23rd June. If your child could bring a small item of food, that would be great, thanks. Please remember the school guidelines regarding nut and egg allergies.  

In Reading, we have begun our new novel, The Arrival by Shaun Tan. It is a pictorial novel with the themes of immigration and discovery in a new land. The children have enjoyed reading the book and exploring its themes.  

In Writing, we have looked at how to write an imaginative story based on the structure of Shaun’s book. The children have chosen a character and are developing their story around it. We are seeing creative ideas as they engage with this genre of writing.  

In Inquiry, the children are putting their Australian history knowledge into digital or poster format to present what they have learnt. Some children are using Slides and some are choosing a poster format. We are looking forward to their presentations during the last week of term.  

The children have had a wonderful term and we are proud of all they have achieved. Only two weeks to go! We look forward to sharing the events planned with them during these weeks.
