Principal's Report

Term 3, Week 3

Dear St FX Parents and Carers,

Deanery Mass

In our first week of school, our parish, families and Year 6 students were invited to attend the annual Deanery Mass in Moree. In essence, a Deanery Mass is a liturgical expression of the unity, collaboration, and shared mission of our local parishes.  It serves to strengthen relationships, facilitate common action, and celebrate the faith life of the local Church. I wish to thank the Year 6 students, Rhonda McInnes and Fr Paul for attending and providing a wonderful day to meet others and join together.

P & F Meeting

Our Parents and Friends committee (P & F) are looking for helping hands to support upcoming events in both Term 3 and 4. More information will be disseminated via Compass as the events approach. Please consider how you may be able to contribute to our: Movie Night, Father’s Day Breakfast and stall, Colour Run and Trivia Night. These events always require many hands to ensure they are a success and any help is always greatly appreciated.

E-Safety on Online Games

Just a reminder for our parents and carers to take an active interest in supervising the games their child/ren are engaging with online. Many online games have functions where participants can ‘befriend’ others, which is problematic in the online safety world when children don’t necessarily have a strong grasp on the dangers associated with this. Young children have a developing understanding of 'stranger danger' in the physical world, but don't always apply the same understanding in the online space. Other parents have been shocked to find their children engaging in online games with chat functions - either typed or verbal - and the offensive or inappropriate language witnessed during gaming sessions. Please continue to supervise your child’s movements online and encourage all online activity to take place in family/common areas of your house. The Australian Government has created more information for parents about gaming and helping your child manage the risks. Please visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/issues-and-advice/gaming for more information about this.

 Annual Improvement Plan

Our Annual Improvement Plan includes strategies for improving school attendance for our students. The CSO sets an aspirational goal that 90% of our students attend school 90% of the time. In order to reach this goal, 90% attendance is an average of one school day away every fortnight, or five school days per term. We know that low attendance rates impact negatively on student achievement in the classroom. However, we also know that it is a balancing act in terms of keeping your child at home if they are unwell. This makes it all the more important to encourage your child to attend school when they are well and able. Having days at home unnecessarily will have a negative impact on your child's learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like some help in devising a plan to support your child's attendance at school.
