Appreciations and News
- Thanks to our leadership and office crew - I was unavoidably absent for a few days last week due to a bout of the flu. It is very much appreciated that when we can’t do what we need to do, we are fortunate to have colleagues who generously step in to help.
- FWPS Athletics Carnival - A big thanks to Stratos and Marco for their fine level of organisation, with the support of the sizable contingent of attending staff, during our annual FWPS Aths Day, held in predominantly fine weather on Wednesday. Our students loved the opportunity to express themselves physically and demonstrate their personal best. Stratos commented on the effort of our staff team and the positive attitude of the kids. We also appreciate all the parents and carers who attended supporting all our competitors. Students who qualified will have the opportunity to represent our school at the Footscray Primary Schools Sports District Carnival on Thursday, 21st August at the same venue.
- Celebrations and curriculum milestones - A big appreciation to Shannon Mason who continues to drive wonderful curriculum initiatives for the library program and for celebratory events for all grades. Supported by the Library Helper volunteers, Shannon has shared some exciting learning opportunities and celebrations in today’s newsletter. Please take time to read her inclusions this week.
- Building project site meeting - FWPS is represented fortnightly at our building project site meeting with the next meeting due to be held tomorrow. We continue to regularly receive positive news about the building timeline. I will provide an update in next week’s newsletter.
Inform and Empower cyber safety online lessons - All grades 1 to 6 will already have engaged in a session this week, or are due to early next week. Teams will be providing parent/carer tip sheets covering the main elements covered. We urge you to use them to stimulate discussion when your family sits down together.
Here’s what’s being covered this term:
- Grades 5–6: Cyberbullying
- Grades 3–4: Cyberbullying
- Years 1–2: Digital Footprints
Prep: Safe Screen Time
School Council on Monday - We are due to meet for the 5th School Council meeting (and first for this term) on Monday. The first meeting each term is presented online with the second meeting, late in term to be held to be held in person.
During our meeting we will receive and discuss outcomes from our subcommittee meetings held already this term and cover specific issues during general business.
Our annual report has been available on the school website for several months and can be accessed here: 2024 Annual Report
If you would like to hear a brief summary about school progress based on 2024 data, please log on at 7pm next Monday using the following link. This briefing will be provided prior to holding our School Council meeting.

Coming up - Tomorrow
- Assembly tomorrow - The current weather forecast indicates that we might be able to plan for an outdoor assembly. Fingers crossed for two in a row! We will look forward to seeing the kids in PAC presenting their take on the 100 Days of Prep, as well as our Pupil of the Week awards (including students from 3TM, 2BG and PAK who missed out on weeks 1 and 2 due to swimming) and a series of reports from our student representatives.
- Parents' Association Trivia Night - There is great interest and excitement for our Trivia Night fundraiser on Friday of next week. Attendees will be able to pre-purchase drink vouchers after assembly tomorrow (at the Wominjeka sign in the yard).
Coming up - Next Week
- School Prep Nursing Program … starts on Monday for families who have provided permission. The program will be held over the first 3 days of next week.
- Science Week … will be celebrated next week with a program being provided by Shannon in the library.
- Sporting Schools Netball program - Our grade 3 classes will have the opportunity to take part in this federally subsidised program. It will be held on Tuesday and on Thursday of next week.
- Grade 2 Botanical Gardens Excursion … will be held on Friday 15th August. It is a full day excursion experience. Thanks to the parents and carers who offered to assist following a Compass post on Wednesday.
- Prep Milo’s Birthday Surprise - A celebration of a milestone within our Little Learners Love Literacy prep program is the moment when the grades celebrate the learning of all the alphabet sounds. This will be celebrated in the Prep grades next Friday.
Warm regards,
Brendan
