Student Engagement & Wellbeing updates

The Respectful Relationships program supports schools to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. We undertake a whole school approach to Respectful Relationship’s understanding that what is taught in the classroom needs to be reinforced by what is modelled in other areas of the school and in the school community. We encourage you to discuss what the students are learning in these lessons and to check the newsletter for discussion points with your child.

The topics for Term 1 are:

  • Emotional Literacy

  • Personal and Cultural Strengths.

In these topics, students will learn about their emotions and how to best manage them, how to form new connections and friendships, how to understand and recognise personal strengths and Learning about respect from Aboriginal perspectives.

Emotional Literacy discussion points:

Use teachable moments to make regular use of language for emotions and to show the ways people can empathise with others (for example,’ I’m guessing from that frown that you are feeling a bit frustrated’, ‘That big smile tells me that you might be excited about trying this’ or ‘The sound of that big sigh has me guessing you’re really disappointed.’)

Harmony Day is on Friday 21st March. It is part of Harmony Week, which is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australian’s from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

On Friday 21st March, students can wear orange to show their support for Harmony Day (we understand grade 5/6’s will be on camp). Students will participate in Harmony Day activities in their classroom or Specialist Class.

I returned from leave yesterday and it is so good to be back! It was great to see all the students and families and catch up on the school year so far. I look forward to catching up with those of you I have not seen yet.
