It was a boiling hot day in Darwin. 45 degrees Celsius to be exact. Samuel loved surfing but even though he lived five minutes away from the ocean, no one was allowed in. People believed that salt water crocodiles infested the waters and it was too dangerous to go in, but that never stopped him.

Once both of his parents had left to go to work, he grabbed his surfboard and walked to the beach. When he arrived, he dipped his toes into the shallow water, then ran to where the waves roared. He turned his board around, facing the sand waiting for the wave.

He shivered. Something sharp had sliced his leg ever so slightly, causing tiny drops of blood to drool out of his leg. He stood still in horror, it couldn’t be, was it. Suddenly a huge menacing crocodile launched its body out of the water, showing off its mighty jaws. Samuel was paralysed. It was as if his feet were glued to the floor and he was a delicious meal ready to be eaten.

Then he felt it. His leg was impaled by the croc’s ferocious set of chompers. The adrenaline rushed to his head. He staggered and stumbled trying to get out of the crocodile’s grip, but it was no use. The crocodile spun around, throwing Samuel’s head under the water.

Samuel’s sight turned black as he eventually ran out of breath. He was dead.
