MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Middle Sub-School Manager

Welcome to Term 3 of 2024. We hope everyone has rested up over the break and are excited for an action-packed Term 3!

We have plenty of things planned outside of the classroom this term for students in the Middle Sub School. Please ensure we are consistently keeping up to date with compass and events to ensure we aren’t missing out on anything.

Boxing Program

The middle school boxing program will continue again in Term 3. Steve and Lena Moxon from Geelong boxing have been amazing with our students and a small snippet of what they have been completing is below.

What is Beyond Boxing?

Beyond Boxing is an innovative, early intervention program aimed at nurturing social and emotional resilience in young people. Led by former 2- time World Champion Steve Moxon and child and adolescent mental health advocate Lena Moxon, our approach revolves around recognising and harnessing the strengths inherent in each individual. We strive to reignite enthusiasm and engagement within communities by offering immersive experiences that foster self-awareness and resilience-building skills.

Central to our program lies the Resilience Doughnut model, developed by Clinical Psychologist Lyn Worsley. This evidence based model enables individuals to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and build competence to face adversity and deal with times of rapid change. With its focus on strengths and encouragement to do more of “what’s working,” the Resilience Doughnut promotes a process of developmental change within individuals, their families, and communities.

Year 9 Gordon Tertiary Futures Program

This program involves four different days at the Gordon where students will be given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities. This will be completed throughout Term 3 and students were required to have completed a USI number and given this to their Homegroup Teacher. Students will begin undertaking modules here at school in the near future to prepare them for this program.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are being held on the 8th of August on Thursday of Week 4. We encourage all parents as always to attend these with their child to gain a better understanding of how they are progressing in the classroom. This will also be important moving forward for Year 9 students as they are completing subject selections the following day and there may be some important conversations to be held with teachers before these.
