Year 10 Wimmera Careers Expo
On Tuesday 23rd June, thirteen Year 10 students attended the Wimmera Careers Expo held at Longerenong College. The expo is the largest careers event in regional Victoria and was attended by a wide range of universities, TAFE providers and employers.
The day provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore potential pathways beyond high school, gather information about future study and career options, and speak directly with industry representatives and education providers. Thanks to Mr Geoff Rigby and Mrs Kim Griffiths for accompanying the students on this excursion.
Science Scoop: Mixing Things Up in Year 7
The Year 7 scientists have kicked off the term by exploring the fascinating world of mixtures. Over the coming weeks, students will investigate the different types of mixtures, including solutions, suspensions and colloids, while building their understanding of solutes, solvents, and when substances are soluble or insoluble.
On Thursday, our young scientists put their learning into practice during a hands-on investigation. Using electronic balances, they carefully measured samples of salt (sodium chloride) before testing whether it would dissolve in a range of liquids, including water, milk, oil, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Students recorded observations and worked together to determine which substances were soluble and which were insoluble.
It was fantastic to see everyone working safely and responsibly in the laboratory while developing their practical science skills. We look forward to sharing more of their scientific discoveries as the term progresses!
