Principal's Report
Dear families and friends of MPW
Congratulations to our students for their efforts producing another fantastic Show Day on Friday. Show Day is a student led event that brings the school community together to share in some fun, whilst celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of our students. We had a great range of stalls this year with the Haunted House, hair spray and beauty salons, sporting activities, throw the sponge, whack-a-mole, and puzzles and challenges. I hope you enjoyed the experience as well.
Thank you to Nikki, who again this year roved with some of our senior students to interview and document Show Day. The video will be presented at this week’s assembly on Friday morning to celebrate the day with everyone.
I would like to acknowledge and thank Kate Lavender, who is expecting a new addition to the family in the very near future, for her contribution to MPW this year in Room 14. We wish Kate and her family all the best for their new arrival. We welcome back Anna Sneddon, who will be working in room 14
40 years of MVIMP
This year we celebrate 40 years of the Moonee Vale Instrumental Music Program (MVIMP). This is a joint program between Moonee Ponds, Moonee Ponds West, Ascot Vale and Ascot Vale West Primary Schools. It offers students at our school from years 2-6 the opportunity to be involved in lessons for musical instruments. The music tutors who work in MVIMP, across the four schools, are highly professional musicians and teachers, who ensure that learning music is a positive experience for the children involved.
The program has its origins back in 1983 when the four participating schools sought, after a series of public meetings, funding for a shared program through the Disadvantaged Schools Program (DSP). The submission was accepted and in 1984 the program commenced.
The program provides the opportunity for students to learn their chosen instrument, working with peers in their instrument groups and culminates in our senior students working together as a school MVIMP band. Students have the experience of two main performances, the school-based Soiree and the end of year Combined School Concert.
The management committee is seeking feedback from the community to reflect on the program’s successes and potential areas for enhancement going forward.
We ask that you please take a moment to complete this survey (4-5 questions), whether you are a user, non-user or interested in joining the program, for the management committee to reflect on and consider improvements. The survey will remain open until Friday 11th October.
