From the Classroom

Welcome to 6B!

It has been a fantastic start to the year in 6B! Students have been actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences, developing not only their academic skills but also their character. A key focus this term has been building a classroom culture centred on agency and accountability.

Our Class Charter – Agency & Accountability

At the heart of 6B is our class belief:

“If it’s to be, it’s on me!”

Together, we created a class charter that defines how we learn and interact with one another.

Agency – Taking Ownership

Students are learning that they have control over their choices, actions, and attitudes. This includes:

  • Managing their time and staying organised
  • Thinking before acting and choosing appropriate responses
  • Showing respect and making others feel comfortable
  • Making positive friendship choices
  • Acting with integrity and being trustworthy

Accountability – Owning Our Actions

Students are also developing the ability to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour:

  • Owning both successes and mistakes
  • Reflecting on decisions and learning from them
  • Being honest, even when it’s difficult
  • Understanding that mistakes are part of learning (when we grow from them)

This shared understanding has helped create a supportive and focused classroom environment where students feel empowered to do their best.

English – Understanding How Authors Create Meaning

In English, students have been exploring how authors deliberately craft texts to influence their audience.

Throughout the term, students have:

  • Analysed themes, tone, and mood
  • Identified and unpacked literary devices
  • Explored language features and text structures
  • Examined how authors create meaning and impact

Students are building the ability to explain not just what is in a text, but how and why it works.

Science – Investigating Growth and Change

In Science, students have been exploring what plants need to grow.

They have:

  • Conducted fair tests and identified variables
  • Collected and analysed data
  • Used evidence to explain their findings

Students are also investigating mould growth on bread, observing how environmental conditions affect growth and change over time.

HaSS – Understanding Australia’s Democracy and Change

In HaSS, students have been exploring: What has empowered Australians to enact change for themselves and others?

They have:

  • Learned about Australian Federation, democracy, and government
  • Investigated migration and its impacts
  • Explored how individuals and groups create change

Students are also developing strong inquiry skills by analysing sources, evaluating perspectives, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.

Digital Technologies – Cracking the Code with Binary

In Digital Technologies, students have been learning how computers represent information.

They have explored:

  • The binary number system (0s and 1s)
  • How data is stored and communicated
  • How digital systems work behind the scenes

This has helped students understand the foundations of the technology they use every day.

A Snapshot of Learning in 6B

Across all areas, students have been:

  • Taking ownership of their learning
  • Thinking critically and asking questions
  • Working collaboratively
  • Communicating with confidence

Looking Ahead

We are proud of the way students are growing both academically and personally. As the term continues, they will keep building their skills while living out our class belief:

“If it’s to be, it’s on me!”
